For me this is just another move in the game of chess between la liga and Barca.

This is true - but there are a couple of things going on. The league are trying to sort out a funding package that helps all the clubs. They all need money but Barca stand out like a sore thumb. The package is highly contentious, it involves selling future revenue to a US private equity house and among their demands they want to play la liga games in the US. It will go down like a pint of sick when it comes out, if it comes out.

The clubs are not going to vote this through and have Barca sign up Messi again on 5 years and massive wages. Give it a few years and they are playing games in the US and the whole thing would stink. The two can not happen. Barca need the money even without Messi, the reality of their situation is they are haemorrhaging cash and they have debts that could get called in if things don't improve. The decisions they make now set the trajectory for the next few years. Messi on the whopper deal would kill them. Pulling out now and doing a better deal with the US investors will save them.

We should go balls deep for Messi & Kane imo. UEFA/G14 have targeted us mercilessly since 2008. They've accused us of financially doping football & the rest, so fuck the lot of them.

Messi, Grealish, Kane & a top class left back would make this a decent transfer window, & show the European elite that we don't give a fuck what they think about us. We've nothing to lose, & everything to gain IMO....
