Interesting piece by Sam Wallace in the Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...up-old-rivalries-and-suspicious-intrigue.html

I've said before that Messi's tax case is no coincidence but my assumption has been that it's Barcelona who've been behind it to stop him leaving. But Wallae reckons it's part of a Madrid led campaign against the Catalans as they push for independence. But there might be a sub-plot with Real Madrid manufacturing a situation whereby Messi has to leave Spain. The decision of the State Attorney to press charges against Messi, even though the prosecuting team recommended dropping them is deeply suspicious.

This Messi thing started when Neymar was going there. The Messi camp weren't keen and we put a package together. PSG also approached him but were told he had given us first refusal. If he comes it costs us a load of money but our commercial deals go through the roof by possibly an additional £50m a year or more. And can you imagine what it does for Abu Dhabi's profile.

aye, was just bringing up Neymar as the old "who needs the old star" storyline could start rearing if Neymar starts cementing himself as the main man whilst Messi is out.

I think it's on, and I think Ferran and Glick are astute enough to have the numbers lined up to pay for it in those accounts, "just" down to Lionel to say yes ultimately.
