Not based on the amounts he is owed or Barca's continued reluctance to pay a fee for Garcia.

I'd assume there might be a stage-managed announcement in Jan, revealing to the world he has signed a pre-contract agreement with us.

It ticks a variety of boxes on both sides.

Messi gets to explain his thinking and gets the proper long send-off he deserves from the fans.

City get six months to prepare the club for unprecedented demands for access and commercial deals.
I think that scenario would be ideal . The build up to him signing & playing from the media will be epic . Might even get my old enthusiasm back

I would still bet on him staying at Barcelona beyond the summer myself.

But i do find it funny that pretty much every presidential candidate is promising the exact same thing. They will all convince him to stay. Beyond that too, no difference in what they are offering. Exciting new project, rebuild, managers new players etc. pantomime beauty parade.

We have to be wary of the possibility United come in and GAZUMP us. The pull of working with Solskjaer and his eventual successor David Wagner as they navigate their way through the Europa League year after year could be more than anything we could ever offer.

A few murmurs in media briefings/Pep’s comments suggest that Aguero’s contract isn’t on the table yet. I think if we want Messi, Aguero needs to be here. He’s one of, if not the main, ‘pull’ that we have here.

leo might prefer sergio here but the main pull was pep and the direction of city imo. He wants to play pep style football and i hope we get him without question.

Sergio will be important to help him and his family settle in Manchester. Considering Leo is an introvert and has always been in Barcelona, I think Sergio will be an important factor in his decision to join us.

Pep explaining his new philosophy to Messi to convince him - "We know we can show more intensity but when you attack they can punish you on the counter..."

Should settle any doubts Messi has.

People worried about Messi slowing us down in terms of movement and pressing, today’s performance isn’t an anomaly and his ability to create something out of nothing would definitely be handy.

Not only that. You’d assume he’d take Mahrez’s place, do we think he’d miss that 1v1?

From his form this season so far yes. He usually requires multiple shots to score a goal. I know he is probably the best finisher in the world so I doubt all his abilities has suddenly gone so he can still find his shooting boot

I'm increasingly less excited about this, as ridiculous as I know that sounds. He's the greatest player of all time, and there are all kinds of reasons connected with that I'd want him at our club. But I just have an uneasy feeling about it.

In terms of what the team needs right now, I'm just not convinced he's the answer. Yes, he'd be a lot better than Mahrez, but it's he the solution to what's currently going wrong with the team? Given he'll not stay longer than 2-3 seasons at most, wouldn't it just be papering over the cracks?

Put Messi in our team yesterday and we would have won. Put Messi in the rags team yesterday and they would have won. Not sure what’s wrong with 2-3 year solutions if it wins us more trophies over the next 2-3 years? No team is realistically sacrificing the present to win trophies 3-5 years from now?
