I don't want Messi here. He is old, wouldn't press and the team will change to suit and flow through him.

And when he gets injured ( which he will at 33 and in a more physical league. We'd have regressed.

I'd rather Haaland or Mbappe. Hope he stays at Barca

Sorry but I think this is really misguided. There is absolutely no way Pep will build his team around an individual, and the entire City project has been built around getting Pep to City and keeping him here.

If Messi comes to City it will be on Pep's conditions, including that we play in a system and no individual is greater than the group. Messi has worked with him before and knows what to expect.

Being an old git, it does have a smell of Rodney about it.

I looked up Rodney Marsh's record before City and found out he'd starred in a QPR side that bounced between Division 1 and 2. A bit like Adel Taarabt.

Meanwhile Messi has dominated at the top level for 15 years now.

No denying how good Messi is, and commercially it‘s probably a good move, but given his age it seems a very short term gain signing if we were to do so.

I can’t help thinking that although it may be great for one season, if that meant one of our rivals signed Haaland, then after Messi left for NY or age just caught up with him then we’d regret it and be back to square one looking for a striker.

messi will bang here 20 goals easy.

get him runners like sterling, foden and bernardo.

him will get 20 assists too.

Give the guy a break. He's carried Barcelona for all of his footballing career.

He's had enough. He wants out. I'd do the same in his position.

As a footballing force Barcelona are finished.
Not the best advert for a club who’s going to spend ridiculous money on him and offer him a 4 year contract.

Not without the ball, he hasn’t.
With the ball yes he’s slowed it down, making sure the players maintain the ball, giving time to reshape and occupy the spaces left open by our opponents.
But without the ball, I think we are back to 17/18, 18/19 press, retrieve the ball quickly through aggressive fast closing down.

I'm just bracing myself for the cataclysmic level of flapping on here when for "insert whichever excuse" Messi doesn't rock up at City. He was average at best last night. Granted Barca were getting bummed on their own patch by a club linked to him, but personally id have thought he would give 110% when playing against a club who are fighting for his signature. It is certainly going to be an interesting 5 months ahead!

Just for the benefit of any doubt, the Transfer Podcast is run by Duncan Castles and Ian McGarry.

Both not even trusted by the Red Tops these days.

There are tweets attributed to it this morning claiming the inside track on our offer to Messi.

The supposed CFA stake, which has been talked about on here for months and also fag-packet, never can be disproved claims, of a reduction in terms of the hundreds of millions we are now only willing to pay.

File under forget. Barca getting pumped last night means it will be open season for the next few days on Messi bullshit.

Our due diligence and offer remains the same as last summer, and was based on him leaving on a free transfer.

I prefer Bernardo and Foden to the messi we saw last night. All that was missing was a pipe and slippers.
