As Pep recently said, we still have to find our penalty taker. Here we are ;)

A bit of marketing on top (worth 1bn)
some ball control lessons for Raz (worth 30+ goals /season)
and his name added to City and CFG Group (worth 100 years of banter).
With our improved defence we might take this little gamble...

Easy decision. Could be fun, could be shite. I've no idea.

Watched him last night and he stuck to walking pace or less throughout.
I’m perplexed by the desire to get him now that he’s lost all his movement.
IMO he’s still an amazing talent with the ball at his feet but he wouldn’t run for the last bus nowadays so I wouldn’t want him in our team because we need 11 players on the pitch, not 10 grafters and a highly paid celebrity playing a walk on part.
I‘d have loved to have him join us 3 years ago, but he simply can’t do what he used to be able to do so, I think we should go get a young emerging talent and he should go out to pasture in the MLS.
Completely agree. just make sure you've got your body armor on when the "Bbbbbbbbut its Lionel messi" brigade turn up.

Im sorry, did you just say that Messi will equate to £1bn of marketing revenue?

Better to have had Messi and tried, than to never have had Messi at all...

Come on! Nobody can hand on heart say they wouldn't want to have seen Messi in a blue shirt. The genuine GOAT in football and still banging in goals for fun.

He's always walked about, so that argument doesn't wash, and in our false 9 position he'd be unreal with runners off him.

Even if it ultimately failed, which it wouldn't, then it would be one hell of a ride and it's not our money anyway.

Unless you’re a good mate of Messi’s and he’s told you that he’s on a go slow for sure then I’m not convinced that he’s stopped running as a ‘fuck you‘ to his club.
I actually like to think that’s he’s a good professional and that he gives his all for his ridiculously bloated salary but I could be wrong and if that is the case then I wouldn’t want a player who takes the money and deliberately short changes his team mates and supporters.

I think he’s been the best in the world by a fair margin, that he’s been running all his life, that he’s just got to a point where he’s had to slow down and that having their team built around a slow and ageing Messi is now the prime cause of Barca’s recent struggles on the pitch.
I don’t think they’ll win jack until they move him along and start to play as a team of 11 players again.

However, I’m happy to be proven wrong. If we do take him then it’ll be because Pep think’s he can still get a tune out of him and Pep knows better than me of course so I won’t be moaning if that happens.
I am.

Messi is not the answer to our penalty problems unfortunately

Just this. We might never see anything like this in our lifetime. The greatest football player of all time playing for little old City. That's enough reason for me to risk it.

Haaland any day over Messi. Why sign him for a year or two and miss out on Haaland who will give us 5/6/7 years service and probably still make a profit when sold
I don’t think it’s a case of one or the other from what I’ve read.

I think Haaland is the priority signing and also adding Messi would be an enormous bonus but don’t think one transfer would affect the other.

I suspect if Messi signed, we wouldn't have too many posters questioning the move in the announcement thread..

I saw an earlier post with a potential starting 11 and I know we don’t have a first or second team but how frightening would this be

Ederson
Cancelo Dias Stones Alaba
Rodri
DeBruyne Foden
Messi Haaland Sterling

That’s without the likes of Gundogan, Walker, Jesus, Mahrez, Bernardo, Laporte etc who would mostly walk in to the starting 11 at 19 other premier league teams.

If we are going down that road then...

------------- Ederson -----------
Cancelo Stones Dias Zinchenko
--Bernardo Rodri Gundogan---
--Messi ----Haaland ----KDB --

I don't want to compare our excellently ran club with that shitshow in Barcelona, but 'It's not our money anyway' and a few years later, 1.2bil in debt.

Our wage structure is very carefully crafted. We only have 3 players on over 200k a week, Ederson's on 65k which is mental. Cancelo's on 80k a week! Messi comes in on 100mil a year, that goes all out the window. That's why FDJ is on 400k a week, Griezmann on 800k a week. It could VERY quickly bite us in the arse.

When has anyone at City, or any City fan ever listened to that Cockney, 2nd hand mobile phone seller, come failed football Chairman, and taken him seriously?

Remember, this is that tw*t that kept on referring to City as a Frankenstein club on Talk Sh*te.

You don't have to click on the video. ;-)

He could be on a basic wage. And the rest of his wage made up of sponsorship deals, etc. There are ways around his wages. If not, City still wouldn't be interested, if City are still interested? If City aren't interested, Messi either stays at Barca, which I doubt very much, or he goes to PSG. No more takers. United? But how PSG can afford his wages, and also Neymar's wages, and Mbappe's wages, Di Maria's wages, etc, is mystery. Would they pass FFP?

Loads of figures on the internet.

Picked this one.

Probably just conjecture.

Explains a bit more via the think.

Gives an insight into what City could make a season/year from Messi signing.

At today's exchange rate $175mill is £126mill. Or £250mill on a 2 year contract

In return, his new team could expect $175 million of value per year if the Argentinian forward stays true to form, according to a calculation from Matt Balvanz, vice president of analytics at Navigate, a data-driven consulting firm in sports and entertainment.
