Messi edges it over Ronaldo for me as the best in the world right now. However, none of them are a patch on Maradona and I will confidently say they never will be. But I do love watching Messi because his control and strength for such a small guy is immense.

Potentially the best player in the world yes, he's already shown he can do just about anything but the key is consistency; I remember this same hype when Ronaldo was demolishing teams for Barca and he had what is probably the best season of all time, but he never truly replicated that form and despite clearly being one of the best ever he will always be somebody that never fulfilled 100% of his potential. Messi was injected with growth hormones when he arrived at Barca and the same thing was done at PSV to Ronaldo, it will effect him later on in his career and injuries can take their toll on him as they did to Ronaldo, so I'm not exactly expecting Messi to go down as the best of all time but he'll certainly be up and around there in 15 years time.

He had a fit before the game. Roberto Carlos alerted everyone in the hotel when he saw Ronaldo on the floor foaming at the mouth. Ronaldo had tests in Paris and was declared fit to play. Nike didn't say he had to play though...at least not according to the biogprahy i've read, aswell as many other literatures on the subject. The reason he played was because he wanted to, and the Doctors at the Paris Hospital and the Brazil team doctors said he was ok to play.

The fit was probably down to the repeated knee injections he'd received. The fact that his quadricep muscle was greater in size than the rest of his leg seemed to be the cause of the injuries. Hector Cuper didn't help and that's why he was sold to Real but that was after the 02 WC.

I know the stories mate, ronaldo was very unlikely to criticise a company in his autobiography that could A sue the pants off of him due to the fact they are Nike nd have that power, and B payed him a significant amount of money in his career (never bite the hand that feeds you)
He was on a ridculous amount of drugs during the world cup, the knee injections during the world cup where pain killers. If you watch the 98 world cup he doesnt look anything near the ronaldo we all knew from the start

Messi is also a fantastic set piece taker, he's banged a couple in recently, he just isn't first choice at Barca as they have Xavi, Henry and Alves who are specialists(like ronaldo) Undoubtedly, Ronaldo is a fantastic footballer but he's been graced with an almost perfect physique, you have to give Messi some credit in that respect.

If messi was the prick who dived all the time(and was a pretty boy etc) and Ronaldo was a quite little guy who never dived.

Everyone would think he was the best.
