Liverpool (A) Post Match Thread

I'm convinced VAR doesn't work at Anfield we play them.

Didn't see it once last week with some questionable decisions.

Wasn't used last season as well when Salah scored that goal which again, looked questionably offside.
Wasnt questionable bud - you could see with the naked eye if you freeze frame. Funnily enough, still seen no replay of Stones's apparently offside goal

If dias had fallen over after the initially pull by the Egyptian diver do you think a foul would have been against him . I very much doubt it.

Completely agree, but what the ref would have given in the heat of the moment and what VAR is able to see with the benefit of a replay from a different angle are two different things. The initial pull and shirt grab by Salah would not have been seen by the ref.

There is no doubt that what should happen in an ideal world where no mistakes are ever made and what actually happens on the pitch are two different things. But that doesn't mean that the penalty was correctly awarded.

It also highlights the ease with which some decisions are given for some teams even when incorrect. If Sterling had gone down like Salah did, do you think he would have got a penalty?

Salah gets beyond Dias and holds out an arm to fend him off. The arm that is fending Dias off (he grabs Dias' shirt briefly, too) is the very arm that Dias then grabs hold of. How on earth can that be "outside the context of the main event"? It happens within the self-same passage of play.
Amend that to the arm that Dias pushes down. He didn’t grab hold of.
As others have said, there is all in wrestling at corners. I saw nothing excessive from Dias as regards manhandling.

The argument that you see them given is exactly what is ruining the game and turning many off.

I really can't see any point in continuing to piss and moan about the penalty. It was given against us so people are unhappy. If it had been given for us the same people would have unanimously called it as a penalty. That's the pantomime nature of being a partisan football fan. Who gives a fuck? The fact that they thought they'd sneaked their way back in it made the subsequent demolishment all the sweeter.
The point is when will the powers that be start punishing CHEATS like SALAH?

For me it's worth discussing because it's part of a wider argument. The wider argument is 'it was a foul, so a penalty was the right decision, but if player X hadn't gone down like he'd been shot he wouldn't have got the decision. So that justifies the swan dive because it's the only way he gets the penalty he should get anyway.'

I can understand that argument, even if I'm not sure I agree with it. But whilst that may or may not be generally acceptable, outright cheating is not. On Sunday Salah threw himself on the floor following a contact that he had initiated. That is cheating. I have seen many blues say 'yes it was a penalty' and it isn't moaning to ask someone to justify that. There's no more point in saying 'it was a penalty' than there is in saying 'it wasn't'. It was given, they scored it, we gave them a fucking good hiding anyway.

But there is a difference between a player - arguably like Sterling in the first half - who got fouled and made no attempt to stay on his feet and a player who dives. This is a player who didn't make the most of a foul, he dived after first pushing Dias. That's cheating, and it isn't moaning to point that out.

But it might be nitpicking ;)
