Liverpool fans in city end

August 1989.
it was 1-1 at half time, and indeed Hinchcliffe did score, a deflected free kick in front of the City fans, 1st game of the season and we went mental in the blazing sunshine..

But we lost 3-1 in the end.

I was at that game. Full of hope, back in the Top flight again after the Bradford promotion game....

City v Everton 1969 fa cup semi final, was stood amongst City mates and plenty Everton fans.Booth scored in the last couple of minutes, no fights, plenty banter, piss taking . No segregation required. Great days, pity, they didn,t last long.

Scum away in 92 when Curle scored a penalty, we were stood at the back of the Stretford End and went mental when it went, amazing how many Blues were in there that night.

Found the game..you were right on the score..but I was right..It was in front of the kop end

Thought so as I remember being directly behind it when he scored and biting my hand so as not to cheer

cheers for that mate.
i was in the city end that day, first ever trip to anfield, first day of the season away at the home of the champions. the atmosphere was electric and when we equalized i thought "City are back"..it was a real moment and i can still remember how proud i felt to be toe to toe with liverpool on their own ground,..3 months earlier i,d been at Bradford City to see us go up...then the crushing return to reality as the red machine powered into action.
Not impresssed by Dibbles attempt to save Barnes penalty,on the action replay behind the goal it looks to me as tho he could have saved that..
Also, my favourite ever City player Paul Lake is playing right back and looks a bit lame for the third goal in the last min, maybe he was injured or just knackered after an energy sapping duel in the sun against the champions...still hurts to see that third goal go in, as i remember being desperate for us to draw level at 2-2,which would have bin a great result, there, back in the day.....noticed Bishop and McNab playing centre mid,and Mcmahon the red scouse doing Bish for the free kick which led to the goal.
the roar of the kop when the third went in still hurts......litttle did we know that our young team would smash utd 5-1 a few weeks later.

what a night that was.incredible.will never forget it
I was in the Stretford end for that...about 200 blues all got together before kick off and the police cordoned us off... Coton clapped us all and if I remember stuck 2 fingers up at the Utd fans...what a night that was!

Haha! I was in there that night, there were fucking loads of us. I was only 14 and it was my first time at the swamp. Will live long in the memory that one.

Another reminder of the adrenalin rush, noise, togetherness, cutting edge banter which modern football fails to provide.
We were never gonna win the league in those days but boy did i enjoy myself.
The antiseptic sterile "experience" we all pay thru the nose for now seems like a different world.

The one thing that sticks in my mind (and my craw) about that game is right at the end of the first half David Oldfield was pretty much through on goal when the ref blew for half time, which is against protocol, which is why I remember vividly which end we attacked in the first half. Liverpool used to get so many decisions at Anfield in their pomp.

You're right he was, I also thought the pen against rihno was harsh, not able to watch the vid at the moment.

The game was also the first time I heard Bluemoon being sung.

Coton might well have done all that, but it didn,t take the hero long to sign for utd a few seasons later.
good keeper tho.

and after their pomp too..remember the superb stevie ireland goal after a lightning counter attack from City under hughes, which was mysteriously ruled out?
in the same match, in injury time i could have sworn the ref blew up as city countered , looking for the winner...similar to the daviid oldfield incident mentioned earlier....hughes went absolutely mad if i recall.
its easy to forget what you were up against at anfield, we certainly dont want red scouse to bulld up a head of steam from their current mid table nobodies position.

You don't have to go back that far. Remember Micah putting his hand in front of his face — his face — to protect himself against a ball that was blasted at him from about four yards? Semi-final of the League Cup at Anfield, 2012. Penalty. And because of it, they won the tie! A truly disgusting decision.

Mate of mine let me and our kid use his season tickets at the swamp , in the K stand , his advice was say f*ck all and dont wear anything blue , it was the game Bob Brightwell stuck a 35 yard equaliser in the top corner , we went mental , and then we got our heads kicked in , but it was worth it , the good old days :)

I was in the Stretford End for that one. As it turned out, so were a good few other blues!
OT was always just a case of getting in anywhere. So have been in all 4 stands of that place.
Never a lot to cause much celebration over the years.

I was in the Stretford End that night and when we won the pen, I started singing Ferguson`s Red Army it went round the ground quite loudly till Curle stroked it home ,

MCFC OK

good keeper tho.

I bumped into Tony Coton in Castlefield drinking with his son and a mate before he jetted off to dubai to undertake some coaching.

After a couple I approached him and told him as a kid he was a hero of mine and how going to Old Trafford was a disgrace.

Quite rightly he could have me to f off, but instead he explained how he had wanted to stay, the club were trying to push him out to Sunderland and as he did not want to uproot himself or his family he went to OT. In all honesty it was quite understandable. As fans we might think what a disgrace signing for united, but he had to factor in the wishes and happiness of his family. We then had a pint together.

Interestingly his mate as well as mine were both reds and he made a point, referring to me and him, how the 'blues' can drink over here. Great bloke, great company.
