It always makes me laugh how he gets plaudits for being so loyal considering he had his bags packed ready to join Chelsea until the local gangster threatened to break his legs.

I was sat next but one (long story) to Gerrard's brother at the Croatia - England Euro 2004 match in Lisbon. I could overhear him talking to Chelsea representatives about the transfer on his mobile phone.

Eh. I don't think "almost" leaving should be held against him. He didn't leave. It's rare for players to stay that long.

When someone even like Zabaleta leaves, he'll be seen a as a club legend, no? Hell, IIRC didn't quite a few of you say that about Mario?

Sorry, I don't hold it against him in any way, I didn't mean to give that impression. It's just the denials that went around still the time were amusing given the first hand experience I had with that one. If only Twitter had been around then!

There were plenty of rumours, even a book about Football scandals written that detailed about a gangster threatening to knee cap him and his entire family, Stevie Me signed a new contract with Liverpool and went back on his verbal agreement to join Chelsea.

I would just like to say that today is the worst day of my life. I have not felt like this, empty, since Princes Diana died. I am not sure there is much point in going on. I have tried to ring the Samaritans but the line is constantly engaged.
When someone is taken from you at such a young age you have to question if there really is a God.
I would like to thank $ky and the BBC for covering this tragic event in the way that they have. The 20 minute segment each half hour on $ky and the constant coverage by the BBC is a tribute to the great man.

Move over Nelson Mandela.

Gerrard certainly knows his audience and how to play them. He's quoted as saying "I'll never play against Liverpool."
Of course you won't you twat because you're past it in the Prem and are fucking off for a last pay day in the MLS.

The owners won't have factored in a money spinning pre season friendly over there against his team but that won't count as playing against them.
