They've also lost Coutinho, Can and OC (for the season) The squad hasn't been upgraded and they managed last season with a piss easy CL group and going out early in the cups. An injury or two and it'll be next year again.
Don't think that's really true. Coutinho was only there for half the season and they were as good without as with him. Can was in and out of the team as was OC, much as we had Laporte for only half the season they had VD for only half a season.
They look much stronger on paper particularly if they get Fekir, how good they are and whether we kick on or have a post title blip is uncertain but to postulate that they will challenge is pretty reasonable.

Just seen UEFA have banned the Roma president for 3 months for stating that the refereeing in their Chumps semi final was an absolute joke.

So the quarter & semi seriously loaded in the dippers favour as well as the non occuring bus job. What we going to see this season ?

It's about squad depth. They've lost 3 players and currently brought in 4, possibly 5 if they sign Fekir which personally I doubt now.

Nobody knows if the players they bought will adapt, just look at Bakayoko at Chelsea. Played the same side as Fabino and has flopped.

As for the 2nd half of the season with VVD, we extended our lead over them during that period.

Both Clyne and Lallana should be fit for the season and they both missed most of last season so if you are counting O-C as a lost player then both of these should be added to the depth.
I can't say I watch a lot of Monaco but my general impression is that Fabinho was more highly rated than Bakayoko. Bernardo was in the same side and didn't flop.

So they've made a net gain of about 3 players, whilst we'll have Mendy back, Mahrez with Foden and maybe Diaz on the fringes.

Agree with all that and it does remain to be seen if the keeper can produce in England but if he does they'll have improved a bit more than us so far.....not 20 odd points better but nonetheless they will be a bit closer.

That's not how it's calculated. A fair calculation is that they've upgraded (and by extenaext improved depth) at CM and DM with Keita and Fabihno. They've pretty much showed up their goalkeeping issue just like we did our fullback and Goalkeeping issue last year.

They still lack a bit of creativity which is why Fekir is a target. But a historically the good energy team that adds the one of the most energetic players to their fold, a top keeper when they had no keeper, and a highly rated DM, to replace an utility player leaving.

These are serious upgrades, let's not pretend they aren't. It's just silly to do so.

Didn't say they've not upgraded just not convinced that the players they've signed with the exception of Allison are a serious upgrade on the players they have replaced. Also only one has PL experience

Mahrez looks a bargain based on the money they've spent.

I wasn't really comparing them with us , I was comparing them last season and this, whereas we don't know how their new players will settle I think they look to have made a step forward in both depth and quality.
For us I agree Mahrez is a great signing on paper and Mendy will hopefully be important. My own opinion is that it's a bit optimistic to think that Foden and Diaz will make a major impact at their age but let's hope.

Epl experience is not that relevant. Talent is. No one knows how anyone will pan out. But on how highly rated their recruits are, there is no question Keita, Fabihno, and Allison are top rated.

Non of them are world beaters yet, but Allison and Keita especially show world Class potential and Fabihno was deemed bt many here as the perfect Dihno replacement.

I don't think wearing red changes any of that.

Definitely improved. Should make for an interesting season.

Pool's ownership and management are rowing together - and are intent on improving. They'll easily finish 2nd and will be our biggest challengers IMO.

I think their recruits this summer have to be regarded as better than previous simply because they aren't from Southampton - so clearly a step up !

is Allison concussed yet?
