Perfectly understandable IMO. Your love of sport is centered on a single specimen.

I'm not too far off from you though - favoring world football above all - but liking, following, and having favorite sides in American football and basketball as well.

Where I've a disagreement with you - is why you think that having favorites in other sports automatically means that you're not a true City fan.

Said another way...
I enjoy several sports.
But my favorite sport is world football.
And my favorite side is Manchester City.
A side that I will not abandon for my lifetime.
You - for whatever reason - question my loyalty to Manchester City - simply because I've loyalties to other teams in other unrelated sports.
Which to me - is simply incomprehensible.

A common clash of cultures.

I've worked in the USA, there are genuine "sports fans" over there (people who like sport in its various forms) that you tend not to find here. In the USA there are sports magazines and channels that are dedicated to sports in general that you don't find in the UK (one or two have tried, they've all flopped).

Here, if you're a footy fan, you're generally only mildly interested in other sports and certainly not interested enough to have a favourite team in that "other" sport, but it's quite common with our American cousins.

It's likely that Liverpool are just gonna be better at what they already do the best, creating goalscoring opportunities via pressing.

They struggle sometimes against the lesser sides because:

a) no true no.9, and
b) no true playmakers

Neither have been corrected thus far. Lesser sides will still look to play compact and beat the press by being direct.

They should get more points but I'm doubtful they will get enough to win the PL if we don't piss about thinking we need only turn up. With Pep I can't see us getting less than 90pts, and we have the 2 best playmakers (by far) in the league and that is what matters most against the vast majority of teams over the course of a season.

Keita is a really good signing -someone we should have gone for - but then in the 1st half of last season it was Coutinho who, as frustrating a player as he is, got them out of trouble sometimes with his long range shooting, he was then replaced by Ox who maybe made the team more cohesive but, being as injuryprone as he is, is out for most of the season, thus Keita isn't adding ontop of of what they finished the season with nor will he give them that x factor to the level Coutinho did.

Fabinho and Alisson give them more defensive solidity but given the lack of creativity still that may only turn a few of their losses into yet more draws.

Shaqiri may end up being their best signing if even the only thing he does is keep Salah focused.

Pool's biggest problems for me last year were:
1) Inconsistency - dropping points against much weaker rivals; and
2) Leaking unnecessary goals.

VVD was a step in the right direction and with the signing of Allison, Liverpool have addressed their major weaknesses IMO.

I think we'll win out - being a more consistent side - but Pool will be our closest rivals.

No offense taken.

But I rather think that I've been a loyal Oakland Raiders fan longer than you've been a City fan (this amounts to nothing more than a guess of age TBH) and a loyal LA Lakers fan as well (went to college in Southern California and became interested in basketball around that time frame).

I pick a team and stick with them through thick or thin - perhaps the typical US fan switches loyalty following a move from one city to another - but I don't.

With regard to my comments about Liverpool - what I'm saying is that overseas fans who were looking for a non-local side to support and have picked Liverpool, may abandon Liverpool if the extant thuggery continues - and especially if it's perceived to be supported by ownership/Scouse.

I've followed them through thick and a lot more thinner for approaching 50 years mate. Not sure how you can be 'loyal' to more than one team even if they are different sports.

Supporting a club is about exactly that, supporting, following them home and away. Now that'd be hard enough to do over here but in a country the size of the states damn near impossible.

Loyal Oakland fan
Loyal LA Lakers fan
Loyal City fan
Hmmmm, this may not be most people's idea of "loyal".

Exactly. Yes i'm interested to see how Lancs do for example but i certainly don't support them.

No probs, we see this differently. I'm "all in" when it comes to sport, that is, City get my undivided support and nobody else gets a look in, footballing or other sports. Maybe myopic, but that's me. You follow a couple of other teams / sports. And clearly enjoy it. Apologies if my initial posts were a bit "in with both feet". Cheers

Ooh this gave me a good chuckle...

If you kill yourself, it’s suicide.
If you kill someone, it’s homicide.
If you kill loads, it’s genocide.
If you havent won the premier league in 29 years, it’s Merseyside.
