Liverpool thread 2019/20

That's the view in most of Europe, but not the rest of the world. In Brazil, and parts of South America, the world cup of clubs is the biggest trophy you can win. Flamengo coach Jorge Jesus didn't hesitate to label it the biggest game of his career. And its the same in other parts of the world.

So while Euro fans don't care much, the owners do. Parading around the world during pre season will be more fruitful with a CL and World Cup trophy in the bag.

Try to justify it as much as you wish, if the Flamengo coach thinks that this was the pinnacle of his and his teams careers, then those careers have been shìt, isn’t he also the coach who said Henderson is the best midfielder in the world, if so he is in urgent need of a MRI scan to check for any recognisable brain activity or actual presence of a brain.

As for the owners caring, they honestly couldn’t give a flying fúck what it was called, they were interested as soon as 10 million dollars was listed for the winners in what was basically two mid season friendlies against teams who they should beat nine times out of ten.

Also you won the CL and the other cup in different seasons, so unless liverpool win the CL again this season there will be no parading them both around pre season.

I care about it as little as anyone. I'm just saying that outside this little bubble we are living in, it's a competition many people cares very much about.

Is it not just over glamorising the competition and subsequent winners? Like the 'World' Series only being contested by baseball teams in North America? Or Miss Universe only being contested by women on earth?

If it's nothing to you, it's nothing to you. I personally don't care about it. I replied to a post that labelled it a glorified friendly. I think that is ignorant.

To be fair many of Liverpool's supporters are ignorant, and belittle the achievements of many other teams.

It is not a game against the two biggest hitters of both continents , so to magnify it's relevance the way your club and supporters do is , as per usual where Liverpool are involved , a massive over-hype of a fairly meaningless trophy ( revenue excepted ) .

For balance, I'm sure some would see it as sour grapes ( dippers definitely ) but if you read posts on here you will find that quite a few on here couldn't care less , although I'm sure Pep and the owners would.

Many believe that the competition is rigged in favour of a number of favoured teams ( not City I hasten to add ) and for that reason actually question its status and validity.

But that's the default answer of many of the "new age" City fans isn't it? If we ain't winning it, it's rigged the refs are against us etc.

That’s because we’ve only recently pissed on people’s chips and the established clubs are so upset that they are resorting to cheating is as much as they can get away with, on and off the field.

Until now, the corruption was never really that obviously against us.

The simple reason we haven’t won it so far is because we’ve fallen short in the competition every season. Hopefully this year will be different, although getting past Madrid alone will be a huge challenge.

I think we've been a bit unlucky with "easy" draws as well. We haven't played a top side in Europe since Barcelona in 2016. I think Madrid is exactly the game we need, the biggest name possible, the tie of the round with everyone watching and time for our players to deliver.
