Liverpool thread 2019/20

Maybe its due to me having had to move over here and being away from the NW but I never really sensed a "hatred" between Liverpool & City fans. Been to a few games between the two over the years and never sensed it. Chatted with a few City fans in the past when i happen to have just gone to any game that I could and it happened to have City playing (seen City away at Oldham, Millwall, Hull & Palace over the years) and never got a bad vibe or animosity from them.
That said I haven't been to a prem game for a couple of years now...so where does this come from? I know we have the recent bus incident and the hacking, but does it pre date that...or is it since forums have become more widely used to find like minded souls?
Is it solely since City have become successful again?......then again maybe as I suspect just being naive?
Anfield has been a really unpleasant trip for City fans since the Sterling campaign ramped up. Plenty of violent incidents against City fans. City centre is very toxic, no comparison to visiting Everton. What I would say (and this includes the bus attack) is that from what I have seem most trouble has not been caused by matchgoing fans but by local thugs watching the games nearby on TV. It is very similar at Old Trafford where a lot of the actual matchgoers are well-heeled outsiders but the risk is in local pubs. I think a lot of the yobs have been priced out of attending games (not saying this is a good thing just a reality) It was terrible at Anfield in the 70s and 80s but so was everywhere.

Let's not forget Liverpool have been one of the chosen one's for at least two decades - Champion's League (CL) qualification was almost guaranteed (and the money it provided) until Chelsea came along - the Premier League were then given four CL places so it was guaranteed again until we came along - and it still took them until now to win the Premier League - an appalling league record for so called European royalty.

I'll give them their dues - excellent team. I'd rather lose our title to a decent one than a horrible side like United. No real ego's on the pitch. Hard working. Going to be a good battle next season. The fans however are tw*ts.

Not sure if serious... have you heard or Robertson and Dick Van??

Arsenal before Arsenal started being Arsenal?

Happy to coast along finishing 4th?

Talk about a tainted title! Last season the Premier League were so desperate for them to win it that they allowed Salah to be given a penalty every time he went down in the box. Blatant cheating. A spate of GK mistakes that would make Hans Seger`s blush. Very fishy.

This year the Premier League via PGMOL and VAR have turned it up a notch and allowed even more blatant corruption to tarnish their 1st league title in 30 years. Forget the * being awarded because of COVID - the * is there because of the Premier League`s desperation and rife corruption within the game to allow this to happen. I mean, FFS, VAR wasn`t used in our game at Anfield in the 1st half apparently - what a fucking coincidence!!

Foden is getting there and hopefully continues to get stronger and improve. That said we have lost Kompany and are losing Silva, two world class players. Sane is going who on his day is also world class. Fernandinho is coming up 35 and Aguero is not getting any younger. We went with what we had this season and it wasn't good enough, certainly for the standard Liverpool have set. We need some world class additions and not signings like Cancelo.
We missed Laporte badly.
Fern should go back into m/f now. He could carry on for a couple of seasons yet.
We have Bernardo, and Mahrez continues to improve.
I don't think that we need to break the bank in this close season, although another addition would be welcome.

Sadly we are the only team that will ever look it as a tainted title, it is going into the history books as a convincing title win and every media outlet in the world is going to run with it as long as possible.

Thankfully the season will likely start not long after this one finishing so they will eventually have to switch hymn sheets.

It’s becoming a little toxic between the supporters, which is actually feeding that rivalry. Had a Liverpool fan try and give it the big one to me the other day. I had just been introduced to him by a mutual friend (who I really respect, and was still present) so I had to bite my tongue, but otherwise he’d be getting the rope-a-dope on Liverpool’s history (there’s no way he’d know what year his club first won the FA Cup, which I do, obviously, being 61 years after City first won it) followed by me playing my Joker of the M-Bomb if he refused to come to heel in an orderly fashion.

Cünt’s probably never been to Anfield, despite his unconvincing claims to the contrary.

Unfortunately they do have a pretty toxic fanbase and a very high volume of plastic armchair fans, particularly where I live in North Lancashire but, I also know they have a hard core of matchgoers. There is so much PR noise around Liverpool it is easy to forget that underneath it all there is a football club with some real fans.
There is genuine hatred now between the fans of both clubs and I think it's a bit sad because it detracts from the achievements of the teams who are truly brilliant. I think if you combined their defence with our midfield and had a merged front three from both clubs you would have the greatest team of all time no doubt.
I am sure other posters that live in the US can also speak to this, but I honestly think it is even worse here, as although I have unpleasant encounters with scousers back home, my encounters in the US have generally been Toxic, as bobby has said. That is mostly due to them seeing themselves as free of any and all sins and inequities and City supporters As being supporters of dirty, evil, human rights abusing foreigners (even though they’ll never admit that last bit, there is often very racist undertones their rhetoric).

I have also found that more Liverpool supporters here seem to be of a certain political persuasion than supporters of other clubs — don’t want to turn this in to a political debate, as this is not the Place for that, just wanted to add context to why so many seem to have racist and/or xenophobic tendencies

No worries mate — I have an autoimmune disease that was diagnosed in the last year after I stubbornly ignored symptoms for far too long, stupidly making worse than it needed to be earlier than it needed it be, and it has unfortunately Taken a progressive course over the last six months. The pandemic has complicated treatment and mitigation of symptoms (as well likely increased severity due to stress) and it often makes it difficult and time consuming to type or even voice dictate

couple that with still needing to Work, which takes up most of my free time most days, and I usually more of an observer and serial liker now, much to many hallelujahs on here I imagine. Fortunately — or unfortunately, depending on who you are — I have taken a full week and a half off starting today, football is back, and am having a “good” day today, so I decided to Subject all of you once more to the torture of reading and responding to my musings.

Hope you are feeling better soon SB .
