Liverpool thread 2019/20

I'm not denigrating Peps achievement last year across all competitions. I've said that he deserved FIFA's manager of the year (even if I think its a meaningless media driven title as others have suggested).

But in my hypothetical Klopp would have won both CL and PL in same season. I'm honestly curious why some would still not consider that sufficient?

Just think, if we had got the favourable (but correct) handball decision against spurs in the semifinal - the one where the ref said he wouldn't have given the goal if he'd viewed the same replay and angle everybody saw on TV, and we had beaten you in the final, we would have won everything.

I like this game. It's fun.

Just as a matter of interest, if Liverpool had turned 1 of their draws into a win, and pipped City to the title last year, would that mean that City fans would agree with Klopp being Manager of the year? (all other results being equal)

I actually agree that it should have been Pep, but the difference (in terms of titles) is effectively the lack of a single goal in a crucial match.

Obviously this is entirely a hypothetical as this didn't happen, but I'm curious whether it would have changed opinions.

Not for me. One result either way isn't really a reflection of the managers, neither was playing (or officiating) for a start.
Just for balance, if Liverpool had gone out of the CL against Barca (eg no Origi goal), it wouldn't affect my opinion either.
I can never understand pundits who say things like "he can't be considered a great player until he's won (insert name of relevant comp...)". Plenty of fantastic players won little or even zero, so for me trophies are an indicator, not a measure.

BTW, I read you're username as 'starfish' first time and thought wtf?

Fair enough.

Competely agree with your point about trophies - players are part of a team so even the greatest (ie Messi and Ronaldo) can't win a world Cup by themselves
