Liverpool v City 1st leg CL Qtr Final post match

We out thought and out fought. It doesn’t happen often these days but it did last night.

Pep fucked up. He’s human.

Move on.
The problem is he is developing a bad habit of fucking up at key moments in Europe. In many respects last nights lamentable performance was similar to the pathetic display in Monaco last year and worryingly for the future a number of poor displays by Munich in days gone by. We still have an outside shot at redemption but after last night I doubt if we are fit to seriously challenge Madrid, Barca or Munich tbh.

Can you name a manager who would guarantee us winning the CL

Having slept on this, I feel no better about it this morning than I did last night. It was, for me, our worst performance under Pep and probably our worst for quite a time before that as well.

In every other game in the last 2 seasons, whether we've won, drawn or lost, we either controlled the game, or at least were competitive. We've usually won, but when we've drawn or lost, it's been in a game where we might easily have won had we taken our chances. Maybe even we should have won, had we taken our chances.

But last night was different. We were just fucking awful and frankly we were battered. I don't care that we controlled the game in the second half (despite creating bugger all). The game was lost by then.

I'm still fuming mad about the whole thing, and I am praying to God we play like our lives depend on it on Saturday. Not some half-arsed effort, thinking about the 2nd leg and thinking the league's won anyway.

I like your posts Armaan, but you can't be right on this occasion and we should not expect or even want Pep to change. What he has managed to do with this group of players in a relatively short space of time is out of this world, he believes in them and i think we should as well. These games are always a toss of the coin, but if you want to play the percentages and try and nullify the opposition rather than think about your own strengths, you'll end up with you know who.
If Pep does not change his approach in situations like last night then we will just have to accept that we will continue to fail in Europe. As for a toss of a coin the only good thing about last night is that we did not end up like Brazil in the last World Cup (Ferno must have had nightmareish visions) and we still have an outside shot at redemption.

How do people think we would have fared if we’d have drawn any of the top 3? Similar performance and result or is it just Liverpool we struggle with??
On the basis of that performance the result would be similar but I believe we would raise our game against the others we seem to play as if in a trance when we go to visit the Dippers.

This is his second season, we were without a recognised left back, Sergio and Stones. The rebuilding process is still not over and we have a second chance on Tuesday.
