Liverpool v City - post match thread

For me that wasn't just a bad performance, that was a total capitulation. Shambles. Like Chelsea under Mourinho this season.

I suspect a lot of these players know they won't be here next season and have thrown the towel in. They wanted their one last hurrah by winning a trophy on Sunday before they leave, but that's their season done now. I'm almost certain Silva knows he's going, his performances since the Guardiola announcement have been shocking. Do you think somebody like Bony, for example, really cares if we get top four if he knows he won't be here next season?

Our top four place is in huge danger and I'm not convinced we'll make top four under Pellegrini - it's that bad. We should be throwing all the money we can at Ancelotti to take over until the end of the season.

Bony was our best player today. He was the only player who kept the ball under pressure.

Silva's been shit all season. I'm wondering if he's playing through an injury.

Too pissed off to come up with something constructive to say about that performance. From the players' attitude to the managerial performance I can't be fucking arsed with this season.

I'm still trying to understand those subs. Our lone striker has no service .... so put on more strikers ?????

Because our manager is utterly clueless.

I 100% blame Pellegrini for tonight, the team he picked was wrong, his subs were laughable and after that first half performance he should have absolutely lost it with the players but they came out second half as if he'd said in an Orvil voice "keep trying your best, something might happen. You never know."

Utterly gobsmacked. I was expecting so much more than that after sunday. There just has to be a reason for these poor, poor levels of performances. Don't tell me there's nobody from the backroom staff who can tell the players what a fucking disgrace they are!! Sure as hell the manager won't. Even Neil Warnock said it's scandalous that City aren't 10 points clear at this stage of the season. And I agree with him, hell we ought to be on the verge of a 5th straight title by now. Something just isn't right. Wrong manager, scouting network not clicking, agents getting 4, 5 or 6 times the value of a player, just because they know we'll pay up. A good run in the CL will not pull the wool over my eyes. Not good enough on many levels.

Always a rollercoaster with City and there's plenty of rises and falls to come this season I bet.

Probably shouldn't post in this mood. My disgust at the players and managers is as large as my delight at the weekend.

I have said numerous times that this team has a very flaky mentality and it was amply demonstrated by consecutive games against the Dippers. Tonight we got the pathetic, spineless, flat track bullies.

My sympathy for the manger extends to the cretinous errors of individual players that cost us goals - step forward Hart and Otamendi tonight - and the run of injuries that has unquestionably hurt us badly. Tonight we needed the options of Nasri, Delph, KDB. I also think that the recruitment policy has been flawed at times and those failings have cost us too much.

However, the manager has consistently failed to be pragmatic enough. I don't think the team runs enough and that raises question marks over the training. The team's movement as a unit is simply not good enough. The failure to put enough bodies in midfield in games like today's is inexcusable.

Tonight he needed to freshen things up and maybe innovate a bit. I posted a team in the Cup Final prematch thread that I thought he should have considered for one of the two games so this is not pure hindsight; tonight I think he should have gone for something like this as a starting line-up:

Ota, Vinnie, Manga
Navas, Zab, Fern 1, Fern 2, Kola
Aguero, Bony

flooded the midfield with bodies plus 5 sets of fresh legs.
