Mrs MSB and me are seriously thinking of selling up and moving to France for our twilight years.

Anyone done this and how has it panned out. One selfish ( Mrs thinks so anyway), is how is watching our games out there? Is there good coverage, or better still, good internet, particularly outside of the major towns and cities ?

We lived up a mountain in a national park in Spain, in the middle of nowhere. I know it's not France but no problem at all with internet. Granted we were in line of sight of the transmission mast about 12 miles away, other than that as easy as it is over here. Some expat will sort you out, probably called Dave from Milton Keynes.

Cheers.

Told the Mrs I won't go if I cannot stream our games

With brexit it’s not that straightforward of just buying and living their now unfortunately.

Broadband is very good in decent sized towns, City are always on one of the cable channels and their commentary teams actually like us! The French actually look after their citizens even ex pats, my in-laws have just received a one off payment just because they are deemed as low earners, gas prices don’t have such a big hit on the purse strings because due to France having a lot of mini nuclear plants dotted all over but increases have been capped at 5% and a payment has been made as well.

The Heath service is fucking excellent my brother in law had a bad turn and he was looked after really well.

I would be over like a shot if possible.

If neither of you have pre brexit residency rights you will not be allowed access to their health service and will not be allowed in for more than 90 days at a time without full private health care.
I have had a house there for 20 years. I could have gone to live there permanently before brexit no problems at all. Could not consider it now that we are out of the EU. Could not afford private health care now.

Do you have anyone remotely Irish in the family anywhere? The Irish are not too fussy about what might count as being Irish, so far as applying for citizenship is concerned. For example, I was born in the UK of UK parents, but my grandmother was Irish and that - apparently - is good enough for me to get Irish citizenship, and with it of course, an EU passport and EU residency rights.

Just a thought.

As cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University

Unfortunately You can only go back to grandparents.
My Mrs goes back to greatgrand parents.
Even more annoying she can prove she is of Huguenot descendency. At one point that got you French citizenship. No more I’m afraid.

Keep that on the low down. You might get called up to their football team otherwise.
