I can almost guarantee the Tory government saw data similar to this which led to them implementing this policy in the first place. This is how parties make policy decisions.

Of course, I accept you can't take any one poll as gospel - there are often factors that pollsters fail to consider. But it's not quite as straightforward as the shy Tory effect these days, pollsters model to reflect these things. They overestimated the Tory vote in 2017, before swinging the other way in 2019, mainly because they underestimated the impact Brexit would have on voter intention.

This is a broad study for those who are interested, a poll review by Southampton Uni. It says the average opinion poll error currently sits at around 2%. And this looks across hundreds of elections over decades.

But no, polls are not infallible - they are indicative though. Politicians use them for good reason.

It's not. Lots of photo ID acceptable for oldies, much less for young people. Certainly not "anything with a photo".

The most mendacious example of this being that 60+ Oyster cards are accepted but 18+ Oyster cards are not. They argue that is because the 60+ card process is more rigorous and requires proof. Yet they don't accept an 18-25 railcard, which has your picture on, is used for travel and requires a government issued passport or birth certificate to confirm your age. Two IDs that are equally valid and rigorous, yet one is accepted and the other isn't.

I think it's appalling how transparently they're trying to disenfranchise young people.

It's astonishing. Basically vote rigging, but it won't be reported that way by the right wing press.
