Log burners

You've got to use people who know what they are doing, they put aluminium piping from the burner up through the stack to the roof, but you need to erect scaffolding to get above the stack on the roof. There are 12 chimney pots on my roof, on the side of the house where the woodburner was installed they had to run a tube from the ground to see which of the 6 pots it would come out of. Also, when they knocked the hole into the chimney stack, they had to install a lintel. And there were also vents under the fireplace running to an old fireplace in the cellar. There would be no way I would attempt that with some bloke from down the pub.

Bit of advice, from experience
Do NOT keep any wood, no matter how small an amount, in the house.
You're risking insects including woodworm not to mention dry rot or other fungal wood infections.
And you don't half get through some wood in winter.

Bull shit red **** !

Definitely get someone from Hetas involved in this as it is their specialism.

Contrary to what some have said you do not have to be part of a Competent Person Scheme such as Hetas as local council Building Control will inspect but in all honesty they are not experts in the field and will only check stuff such as ventilation, carbon monoxide detector, hearth size, notice plate etc. Not necessarily the workmanship of the job.

Over 5kw you are required to ventilate the room that has nothing to do with the requirements of who installs.

I would get a pro in. The effects of a failed installation can be life and death, particularly if a new stainless steel flue is not used
