Lords cricket ground

I was in that stand for the Nat West final in 1996 when Glenn Chapple destroyed Essex and Lancashire bowled them out for 57!
Top day out and the view was pretty good we were sat near the back, nearly behind the bowlers arm
It has probably changed now as Lords has had an almost complete overhaul since then
This is a picture from that stand now

EDIT
Got the wrong stand first!!

Been loads of times, on one occassion after getting pissed up with the Lancashire team in Crockers bar down the road after a successful final win me and a mate walked back to Lords around midnight and got talking to a West Indian security man at the Grace gates and he ended up letting us both in. All 3 of us ended up sat in one of the stands just looking out over an empty ground in the early hours of the morning talking about Viv Richards and Ian Botham. One of my fondest sporting memories.

It's a beautiful ground and you should arrive early and spend plenty of time walking around taking it all in. It reeks of history. Get on the pitch afterwards and walk to the middle and you'll be amazed at how steep the slope of the pitch actually is. But stand there in the middle and imagine facing the first ball on the first day and how many legends have stood in the same place. It's a tremendous feeling.

Astonishing place. Much smaller and compact than it looks on tv

Have a walk round it during lunch and drink it in, its the home of cricket and its so atmospheric its untrue.

Take a picnic hamper, you can sit on the practice ground behind the stand opposite the pavillion. Make your hamper a treat too as its a special place.

First time i went it was for a Lanky final and we were allowed on the ground for the trophy presentation and i was mesmirised when in the middle. All those cricketing greats has tread that turf i was on. I had shivers down my spine mate.

Your right about the size. Had a walk round it when i was there
Something very unique about Lords. You can almost feel the history about that place as soon as you walk in

Cheers fellas, im not really sure what to expect tbh. I've been to the majority of the Northern ground but I'm expecting a very different day out. I've read some reviews and the mostly slag off the view so this has put my mind at rest. Hopefully we'll get a fine day as I've got some non-cricket fans with me.

Its not about the view, rarely at any cricket match have i had a good view, its about the atmosphere and being part of the occasion.

I took a friend of mine who wasnt that keen on cricket to OT for a Lancy one dayer, it was a near full house against the Yorkies and he was hooked, still is and loves it.

No mate and even when the commentators talk about it you look and just think they're over exagerating it and then when you actually walk on the pitch it all apparent just how much it is. Another great thing is people watching, love looking at the members in their ties or spotting old cricket stars. Bumped into Howard Kendall on one occasion there not long after he'd left us and he spoke very highly of City and said if it wasn't for Everton he wouldn't have left for another English club. Got some great photos there and whenever I've gone for a final I've always sent myself a stamp home of the game with the envelope stamped with a Lords mark. Another thing I always take is my panama hat mate ;-)

This is true, we're going on the Thursday for this reason. It'll be the first day of the test summer.

-- Fri Feb 01, 2013 10:11 pm --

So do I, I could watch cricket in all weather's but there's nothing quite like waking up to a clear blue sky on the morning of a test match.

Was at that game mate, couldn't believe we was back in the pub mid afternoon. Saw us in four other finals losing to Derbyshire in the B&H 1993, winners v Kent 1995 B&H, winners v Northants 1996 B&H, winners v Essex 1996 Gillette cup, winners v Derbyshire 1998 Gillette cup. Whilst I enjoyed watching a great Lancashire team winning many trophy's it was countered by watching a dire City side lurch from one disaster to another. Remember that great semi-final v Yorkshire, it pissed down delaying the start if I remember correctly and I ended up absolutely paraletic on the first day. The game had to go into a second day with that brilliant nerve wrecking finish with Peter Martin scoring two off the penultimate ball to win the game, made all the better by taking the day off work with a hangover only to end up back at O/T.
