Losing youth players

Not a lot we can do really we sometimes forget we poach players as well
Sancho was from Watford and Garcia from
Barca
We have the academy to make money and hope the odd worldly comes through
Modern football means everyone wants success now so a manager can’t gamble on youth otherwise he is gone

Are we making a mistake ? What else can we do ? Are the players leaving over hyped now everyone seems to be the next sancho. Have seen similar headlines about the lad that went to Leeds and the one who is going to United. Can we change the narrative ? If so how ?

We seem to be recruiting the youth everyone wants. That’s a plus.

we should get compensation and and a sell on clause another plus.
we could have them in the first team or sell on for a bigger fee if we held onto them longer is the downside.
Overall, if we make money we will be happy.

If we get one player every two years who comes through from tha academy to become a first team starter it would be a phenominal result.

99%+ Of our academy players with never see the first team squad, the ones that do will save us an absolute fortune though.

Every single club lose promising players, the overwhelming majority of them turn out to be not upto scratch anyway.

Look how many players have left barca’s Famed academy which is probably the most high profile youth development centre in the world. The top kids more regularly go to the top sides, if they’re not the very very best they don’t get a shot in the first team and so move on, they’re far more likely to make it and have a decent career given the standard they start at.

We’re doing absolutely nothing wrong, we make good money from it and if anything we should be ramping up the turnover. Only thing we can improve on is finding better loan clubs to send them out to, too many have poor loans and barely get any gametime.

Sucessful on the money side of things, we are never going to keep them all anyway. Academy was set up to give the lads education and if they were good enough to make a living out of playing football. Players at City will be one offs and because the bar is set so high, a lot of very promising youngsters will leave. IMO as long as the club continues to have buy back clauses or sell on fees that is really all we can hope for.

That is what the academy is primarily for, stop believing everyone we lose is going to be the next messi
Correct. We’ve made tidy money from players whose names I’ve already forgotten. Fantastic when we do bring a genuine academy product/local lad through, though, à la Foden.
