Lyon CL QF Post-Match Thread

Pep has a lot of blame for the results, but at the end of the day the players still should have walked all over Lyon regardless of the tactics. Sterling and Jesus missing chances that should have went in. Especially in sterlings case I think that gets put in 99 out of a 100 times. Any other player on that pitch easily taps that in. I’m truly baffled how he manages to put it 20 rows up? I mean that’s the type of goals you dream of. Easy as fucking pie.

Fucking embarrassing the lot of them, how did he miss from 5 fucking yards oh my word thats poor

Flat footed in midfield to fucking slow at the back & Dino & Rodri was a big mistake

Manager blew it big time but our defending & misses were once again the winner

What an awfull season the League Cup & we nearly blew that fucker as well at the end

Now for a week of total utter bollocks from everyone

Laporte & Edderson were wank, feel for Sterling right now that miss was Sunday League stuff

The first bit sums up our season

Pep completely out thought himself. How the hell he came up with that line up and shape 8nlt he will ever know. Like having a Rolls Royce and putting the handbrake on and deflating the tyres. Pep will get hammered for this - and I’m afraid he deseves it. Hes let the players, the club and the fans down tonight.

If Pep hadn't have won what he has for us at present, that would've been a sackable performance, absolutely cowardly tactics from the start. We'll never win this tournament I'm resigned to that.
I think we might win it one day but I don't think Pep will ever win it again, as he is just too clever for his own good. The one thing I loved about his press conference was him saying he just wants the team to play how they always play and, if we win we win and if we lose, we lose. He then picks a team that’s never played together before, in a formation (3 holding players), I’ve never seen us play before and looks a bit surprised it doesn’t go well. He played a fearless 11 against Madrid and he looked terrified against Lyon. Lyon ffs....

Does anyone else think our team is massively overrated. Maybe we got carried away by all the media hype about our 'billion dollar' squad.
Our rivals think any player we sign is world class, maybe playing with better players hides the limitations of some of our players.
I genuinely think Laporte is very overrated, I always get a feel he has some mistake in him. This is his 2nd UCL qf cock up.
We don't have a world class DM, Rodri is good but slow and gets easily overrun.
Jesus will never be a striker, even a half decent defender pockets him easily, his work rate and dribbling skills are good though.
Gundogan should be playing for a midtable Bundesliga side, not ManCity.
Ederson is not a great shot stopper, but least of our worries.

The reason this season has been so disappointing is the *way* we keep losing. It's the same things every time. Dominate possession, don't create enough high quality chances, don't enough the of the few we do create, done on the counter. We lost 1 in 4 games in the league this way. Considering the expectation, the players we have and the targets, it's been way below the required standards.

Love Pep but why oh why did he set us up so defensive. He got into the players minds that Lyon are a great side and WE have to change for a team 7th in their league ???. NO other should have been Lyon that changed we should have had a front 3 of Foden Sterling Jesus, KDB centre basically the same 11 that started against RM.
Our midfield why defensive no creative player.
Sorry I would prefer to lose 5-4 than to have had to watch that. All on Pep this one.
I hate being negative about our Blues but we have to be realistic. You are correct.. you could see it wasn’t working ten minutes in. The second Lyon goal was a cheat and a farce (both offside and a foul) but what went on around it is down to Pep and Pep alone. He needs someone strong enough to stand up to him at key moments like this game, sometimes just to say ‘No‘. This is not the first time, even in the past few weeks (Arsenal, now Lyon) that his selections have blown up in our face. Really very poor tonight, Pep..

Pep bottled it tonight. Picked a team that had me scratching my head and they didnt disappoint in the first half. 2nd half a bit better but needed more changes. Why go 3 at the back ffs, just play the tactics and team that gave you the best results this season. Disappointed doesnt cover it.
