In terms of Thatcher "covering up paedophiles" are we just talking about Cyril Smith here or are there others that there is any factual data to support?

Because not only did she not cover up the Cyril Smith thing, the documents released shown that she almost certainly had no knowledge of it at all.

She was told about Police investigations into him and that knighting him risked damaging the honours process. That's just the stuff that was eventually released with other files being withheld on 'national security' grounds.

She KNEW about Sir Peter Hayman the convicted paedophile.

Correspondence released by the National Archives written by and to Thatcher personally indicate that she had no knowledge of his sexual activities with children and was informed that they were merely fantasies at best. Even that was much later on.

She KNEW about Sir Peter Morrison the convicted paedophile, her own personal aid who she later gave a knighthood to...

Actually the only person who claims that is a former bodyguard, and the other attendants of the meeting state that he didn't mention underaged boys and that he was complaining that Morrison had had allegations against him that he had sex with men

and she even KNEW what Sir Cyril Smith was up to as well before giving him a knighthood......

Actually she knew about the official allegations about Cyril Smith which at the time were limited to him spanking children when running a boarding house. She was also told that Police had looked into these allegations and found no wrongdoing on the part of Smith, and the Cabinet Office were more concerned that giving him a knighthood would regurgitate the older stories in Private Eye

I know this type of "reds under the bed" paranoia about paedophiles so accurately portrayed by Brass Eye almost 15 years ago is intriguing, but one of the reasons that cases like this are never investigated properly is that so many people are so irrational and it comes off like that to authorities. Essentially all of the allegations above regarding Thatcher's knowledge aren't supported by any evidence so it comes off as political bias. It would be more useful if people were to stick to the facts rather than concocting their own and would actually help investigative efforts much more.

Linked above in a post that I was writing, but the thrust of it is that she was informed that there had been a Police investigation into it and no impropriety was found. It was written off because it was centered on spanking rather than the more gruesome penetrative sex that I'm sure would have been a big red flag. As silly as this sounds in 2015, many people at the time thought that spanking children's bare bottoms was perfectly acceptable and that's all this was - a rather innocent form of punishment. They were wrong of course as the allegations in the 2000s show but making that judgement call in the 1980s with just that as the primary source of knowledge isn't exactly a fair statement to say that "she knew all about Cyril Smith's paedophilia".
