Maggie Thatcher

Uncanny!!

I was thinking earlier today about starting a thread about naming the person who divided opinion most on Bluemoon - and the person I was going to suggets was Thatcher.

Totally divides opinion, not just on here, but in life as a whole.

One thing I do admire about her was her strength to stand by her decisions (whether they were correct or not) as opposed to today's lot, who change their thoughts like the wind, to garner favour.

I will admit, the recent paedophile revelations haven't shown her in a good light (if all true)

She divided opinion because her policies were divisive in the extreme. North v South, Rich v Poor, Tenants v Landowners, Nationalised v Privatised and so on......

In short no shades of grey, just extremes of black or white.

Good for Britain, Bad for British.

also bad for the unions, the workshy and the cadgers.

Given the extent to which subsequent Tory leaders have used her legacy in an attempt to generate political capital, Cameron should have some searching questions asked of him in relation to both these matters leading up to the election in May. That is entirely right and proper given that Thather has, time and time again, been held up by him (and his post-Thatcher predecessors) as being an example of Tory leadership at its finest.

The fact she isn't here to defend herself is largely irrelevant. Neither is Savile, Smith, nor 96 football fans for that matter.

I think that power warps most people's morality in an elastic fashion. That is to say the greater the power, ones sense of right and wrong usually gets blurred exponentially. Thatcher wielded incredible power in the late 80's, before the Poll Tax fiasco, and this would doubtless have imposed itself on her moral compass, assuming she had one.

I believe her behaviour in relation to both these matters was utterly appalling and inexcusable, based on what I know. All leaders have skeletons in their cupboard, but hers are especially dark imo. Consideration for the innocent should be a primary feature of a great leader's moral constitution. It shows compassion, empathy and a certain selflessness. True marks of greatness in the powerful.

On Sunday I wore a T shirt I got in 1984, the year the miners strike started and when Mrs Thatcher was in power.

It's a Tetley Pub Hunt 1984 T shirt, and you had a card which was stamped every time you had a pint of Tetleys in a different pub, and when you got 20 stamps you got a free pint and sent your card off for the T shirt.

Ah, the 80s. They were a good time.

I did the Tetley pub hunt but it was in 81 or 82. I remember getting my free pint in the 20th pub. Unfortunately the beer was shit in that pub. It was a real disappointment. Not seen the T shirt for years.

If it was in the north west the Tetley's would have been brewed at Warrington, at the former Walker's brewery, rather than in Leeds. It was always of a greatly inferior quality to its Yorkshire counterpart.

Not had a discussion on her for a while so thought it was the time to do so,ok let's go.a couple of questions for all you Thatcherites... 1, how can you idolise a person who was a paedophile apologist,ie knew that her collegues and fellow politicians were raping children? 2, following the Hillsborough inquiry, albeit sensored, how can any football fan, working class man and northerner actually hail this subhuman woman? After all she did to blame the death of 96 innocent victims on themselves? I just cannot understand how any half brained human being could ever have had any respect for for that disgusting excuse for a human being and probably the biggest enemy of this once great country

1, she twatted scargill
2, she rescued the country.
3, she was sexy as fuck.

whats not to like.
Lol,I once had a really weird dream about Thatcher where she dressed in leather, leather boots etc and was whipping me with a leather whip with tassels on the end,I woke up with a mixture of feeling disgusted with myself and feeling strangely aroused. She was a disgusting, vile subhuman ****

The Lancashire Tetleys pubs didn't take part in the pub hunt as I found out when I presented my card to a barmaid in a Manchester Tetleys pub. The bad pint was in a Leeds pub where the landlord didn't look after his beer properly. It was the last day of the promotion and I didn't have time to find another pub to claim my free pint. One day I'll get over it :-(

It wasn't the Original Oak was it? That used to be one of the busiest pubs in the country, yet the beer (which was Tetley's) was always terrible.

I used to live round the corner from the Oak so that was one of the first I went to on the pub hunt. The dodgy pint was in a pub in the city centre. Can't remember the name.
