Maine Road FC back to winning ways yesterday when they defeated Glossop North End 1-0 with a fabulous free-kick from Reddish born & Blue Rob Brocklehurst (sponsored in our programme by 'King of the Kippax'). You can see the goal on Alex's video which will also give you a flavour of the 'Stade de Brantingham' experience.

Road have their most important game for 4 years this Thursday night when they are at Brantingham Road (M21 0TT) to take on Norton United* in the 2nd leg of the Challenge Cup semi-final. We are already 2-1 up from the away leg, but complacency is not an option. If any of you can get down to give the lads a cheer to the Final, that would be much appreciated!

Adults £5, Concessions £3 Children Free if accompanied by an adult. City colours particularly welcome!

*Norton United are from Burslem (Port Vale territory!)

P.S. Don't want to abuse privileges, so haven't put this on the main forum, but if the mods are happy to give us an extra boost by placing it there as well, that would be excellent!

Doh! Increase our advantage after 28 mins to go 3-1 up on aggregate then floodlight failure!! ...a Far East betting syndicate maybe?! Biggest crowd for a couple of years too!

Turns out it was the electricity supplier's fuse that had blown and there was nothing our gallant on-site sparkys could have done...bugger! Will let you know when it is replayed. Let us hope it is not a repeat of the time the Luton V City cup-tie was abandoned with City having scored 6 (all by Denis Law) and then they contrived to lose the replayed game 3-1 (who scored 7 goals in a cup-tie and ended on the losing side?)

Bloody hell! How unlucky is that?

Still don't have a definite date for the 2nd leg, but if you want a feel for what went on last night - a short video:

...and the game is Tomorrow!

Second Leg - Second Time

After the frustration of our 2nd leg semi-final being abandoned due to floodlight failure when 3-1 up on aggregate, we now will try again tomorrow. We go back to the original 2-1 score in our favour from the first leg. Being a 3:00pm kick-off, a repeat of the failure (subsequently proved to be a fault outside our control) will not occur! Those who attended the first game were given a ‘voucher’ and upon production of this they will be let in for free.

Please do your best to get down and cheer the lads through to the final.

If not got a voucher from the abandoned game-

Adults £5, Concessions £3 Children Free if accompanied by an adult. City colours particularly welcome!

Best wishes to Maine Road FC at the second attempt :) (look forward to seeing the great video clip soon!)
