Well as we have expected the reports are starting to circulate today of possible changes the owners and new manager will be making to the playing staff come January. I have read a couple of articles on the BBC and more reliable papers talking about one of the key reasons for getting rid of Hughes being a number of poor signings at vastly over inflated prices. It was not just the poor results against the worst sides in the league or our inability to defend but their lack of confidence in him being able to sign quality players from outside the league to take us forward.

it seems that the Lescott, RSC and Bridge deals are the ones they are least happy with both the price and quality of the players. Personally I think Lescott will come good, we paid twice what he was actually worth but we knew that when we signed him anyway. He did well at Everton just needs a commanding central defender next to him telling him what to do IMO. Bridge is almost certainly going to end up with a top quality left back to compete with for a place as we only have him at the moment that can play in that psoition. I also think Richards and Nedums days could be numbered it would have been nice to keep them but if we bring in a top quality centre half and right back they just will not get any game time from what I can see.

So it looks like :

Central defender
Left Back
Right back

For starters. He likes playing with 2 big men up top so another big centre forward and central midfield player are possibilities. 3 - 5 players not really a major rebuilding job, our squad is still quite small I would expect a fair few players to be leaving anyway, Petrov OR Robinho, Garrido, SIlvinho will be released in the summer anyway Benjani for sure question marks over Nedum and richards as well if we sign suitable replacements or Mancini doesnt fancy them or feel he can improve enough in the short to medium term.

I dont see the overal squad size increasing really just more quailty and cover in the areas its needed. Thoughts ?

Names doing the rounds are Chenneli at centre half, Lahm at left back and Macion at right back but this has already been covered elsewhere.

Apparently Mancini recommended Chenelli to Sven when he was at city hes a big fan. He signed Macion at inter and the owners have been tracking Lahm for a while apparently so its looking hopeful.

I'll be devastated to see Ned go anywhere, I honestly think given time he could go on to be a genuine City legend. Of course if the new owners bring in anyone like the names previously mentioned it will soften the blow, but to lose His Nedship will see me pining for a long long time.

Just a Big No-Nonsense centre half will do for me and a comanding midfielder either one of these to be captain

One player i would love to see at city....how you can say he is shite is beyond me. Anyone who watches serie A would agree with me. One player i would love at this club along with Maicon.

this, but lahm would be a good buy imo

So basically one of the most solid defenders in Europe can "go and fuck off" and you want to shore up our defence with Philip fucking Lahm???? Talk about defender who can't actually defend.

I don't go along with the Hughes signed poor players argument

I like Bridge and Lescott as players. They just get exposed 1 on 1 time and time again beacuse we don't play a line of 4 in midfield like most teams.

You can play 2 or 3 in midfield if you like, and that's what we do, but alongside that your defenders must be able to defend against a forward running at them. Dunne can't do that very well which is why he struggled last season, and why we brought Lescott n.

In Hughes set up it was inevitable that we'd concede more goals because the emphasis was on fielding the forward signings

People who says Chiellini is shite clearly hasn't seen him play enough. He's world-class. Hard as nails, good on the ball, he's just really good.

You get your defence right and build around it , it's the only way ...... and generally the italian way ........ Fergie's always done it ....... as did Shankly and Paisley with their great Liverpool sides ....... Morinho had John Terry and others doing their 'stuff' at the back , home and away ....... it's got to be Mancinis absolute priority , and it SHOULD hve been Hughes's too ....... bringing in a half decent defender like Lescott at the eleventh hour in the summer clearly wasn't the answer after 18 defeats last season , he just isn't 'commanding' enough!

Lahm is a dreadful defender, there's good reason a bigger side has never signed him. He's decent going forward but not good enough for it to be used as an excuse for his terrible positioning and tackling. He's like Podolski and Schweinsteiger; an average player who people over-rate thanks to performances at one or two International tournaments. If they could produce that form at club level, Perez would have made them him Galactico's. But they can't, so none of them should be considered. Especially Lahm, ARGHH, it angers me so much to see this prejudiced rubbish about him and Chiellini who is one of the best centre-backs in the game..

None of those aforementioned defenders would come here. Lahm is, arguably, one of the best full backs in the world. He's at Bayern, where winning the title is almost a foregone conclusion. Maicon, ditto. He even has the possibility of winning the Champs League. We just need solid defenders. Someone who actually wants to be here.

ashley cole has the narrowest midfield out there infront of him. there is just a difference between the 2 players, when ashley cole goes forward he knows to come back, Bridge just wanders around like a posing wannabe midfielder tosser and costs us games leaving the biggest gap in the world at left back.

I sincerely hope Bridge goes.. he is our weakest link

Lahm - I'd tend to agree with you on, but don't underestimate the power of money and the EPL.
Maicon - Right from the start he was a Mancini signing and supposedly they still have a close relationship.
Chiellini - Juve are out of Europe, loads of ageing players getting ready to retire and effectively out of the title race this season.
