Don't have one, probably should, are the DIY ones worthwhile/legally binding or do I need a solicitor/financial adviser/accountant?

Get one done by a solicitor.
Every year there is a month when they do them for a contribution to charity.
If you are in a union they usually have a dept doing them cut price.
Do a mirror one for you and the wife.
