Manchester City fail in bid for Uruguayan

Manchester City have had an official bid for 20 year old Uruguayan Gaston Ramirez rejected according to reports in the Daily Mail.

Ramirez is currently in his first season with Serie A outfit Bologna, who themselves only signed Ramirez last summer from Penarol. Having only played 19 games for the club, manager Alberto Malesani will do all he can to resist the advances of Manchester City.

Ramirez’s agent Vincenzo D’Ippolito told Sky Italia that Roberto Mancini’s side had lodged a bid for the player. “It’s a concrete offer from Manchester City for him. I don’t know what amount but Bologna, for now, said no.”

D’Ippolito went onto say, “These are the first signs, we’ll see what happens.”

“Bologna want at least €20million (£17.5m) for him.”

Mancini is looking to bolster his squad for the possibility of a Champions League adventure next season, a prospect which could appeal to Ramirez.

Bologna’s Director of Sport Carmine Longo has also revealed the club have been contacted by Inter Milan about the services of the young starlet as recently as last month. (Goal.com)

Therefore if Roberto Mancini is planning on continuing his pursuit of the youngster, he is likely to face competition from the Nerazzurri.

Look at the date of the article.

Forget Titanic pictures, the ship hasn't even been built yet!

Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce was stunned when a bid to sign Tottenham striker Mido fell through minutes before the transfer deadline.
A £4m deal for the Egyptian was almost done, only for it be called off at the last minute by Spurs boss Martin Jol.

"The doctor was there waiting to do a medical which tells you how advanced we thought it was," said Pearce.

"Then we get a call at 2330 GMT saying Spurs were pulling out. It was a bit of a bolt from the blue, that's for sure."

The transfer window closed at midnight on 31 January - leaving City with four strikers.

Between them Bernardo Corradi, Georgios Samaras, Paul Dickov and Darius Vassell have scored eight Premiership goals this season.

Pearce said he shared fans' frustration at failing to sign anyone in the transfer window to increase the team's attacking options.

"I am sure the fans will be disappointed; I know I am," said Pearce.

"We sat in the secretary's office at 0100 GMT on Thursday, by which time we had hoped to have at least one or two more players through the door.

"We looked at a lot of things, and everything crossed our minds.

"But in the end it is very difficult to persuade clubs to sell their best players - and events conspired against us."

We also failed in a bid to sign sanchez and failed in a bid to swap Tevez with Eto'o. According to the papers, we're just serial failures who are being "snubbed" by everybody. ARSEHOLES.
