I'm coming to Manchester in just over a month to see 3 City games. Spent plenty of time in Manchester in recent years but this will be my first visit as a single man. Going to be shameless and admit any evening time I'm not spending watching City I'm keen to hit the bars and nightclubs and try my luck with the local ladies, but have no idea where to start.

So basically looking for any advice about where to go, how to play it, etc. that any of you can offer a 26 year old guy with a foreign accent and fairly mid-range ability with women (perhaps being generous to myself haha). Guessing I'll have more fun at spots popular with students and backpackers, but I don't really know. Don't know if it makes a difference but I'm likely to stay four nights in Manchester - a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Also does anyone know much about the Manchester hostels; Manchester YHA, Hatters/Hilton Chambers and the like? Are they worthwhile and tolerable? Never been one for hostels but wondering if they may be worth a go.

Thanks in advance!

Try Australasia and the Walkabout.

Apparently, Deansgate is full of chavvy scum and the Northern Quarter is full of wannabe trendies, so you're pretty much fucked and will have to go to the village.

If you are the backpacker student type start off on Oxford Rd in the Salisbury right next to Oxford road train station its a massive student area theres always someone to talk to then take it from there, but one tip when you are in Manchester get roaring drunk cause everybody else is you will stand out like a sore thumb if you dont.
If you want drunken girls out for a good laugh after a hard weeks work go around the bars in Piccadilly theres loads of them, also try to take in Deansgate and the Northern quarter basically just go with the flow you will have a good time, see you cobber i lived in Fremantle when i was a kid

Its full of chaves everywhere in town

tiger tigers alright on a saturday night for the girls

At your age mate, Student nights are your friend.
Loads of them will have done backpacking in Oz during their gap year so you'll immediately have an 'in'.
As well as town, the student bars of Fallowfield should be like shooting fish in a barrel for you, cobber

Assume this posture and go down canal street pal. They'll end up chasing you.

Oh, and take a wobbleboard ;)

Northern Quarter probably. Everywhere has its share of fools, but also it's fair share of women too

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I've lived pretty much my whole life right near Fremantle. Love the place but the nightlife there these days is a cure for the will to live!

Keen to avoid the Aussie pubs, kinda defeats the purpose of going out in Manchester and wasn't a fan when I was dragged to the Walkabout on my first Manchester visit.

Don't mind encountering "chavvy scum" or "wannabe trendies" as long as it's in a reasonably safe environment. Like the sound of Fallowfield if it's really gonna be shooting fish in a barrel haha!
