see you cobber i lived in Fremantle when i was a kid
I've lived pretty much my whole life right near Fremantle. Love the place but the nightlife there these days is a cure for the will to live!

Try Australasia and the Walkabout.

Apparently, Deansgate is full of chavvy scum and the Northern Quarter is full of wannabe trendies, so you're pretty much fucked and will have to go to the village.
Keen to avoid the Aussie pubs, kinda defeats the purpose of going out in Manchester and wasn't a fan when I was dragged to the Walkabout on my first Manchester visit.

Don't mind encountering "chavvy scum" or "wannabe trendies" as long as it's in a reasonably safe environment. Like the sound of Fallowfield if it's really gonna be shooting fish in a barrel haha!
Loved Fremantle myself lived in the suburb of Beaconsfield 300 yards from the beach and fishermans harbour but i was only 9 and came back when i was 11 and that was in the 1960s so didnt sample much of the nightlife except to a bowling alley in Perth

I'm coming to Manchester in just over a month to see 3 City games. Spent plenty of time in Manchester in recent years but this will be my first visit as a single man. Going to be shameless and admit any evening time I'm not spending watching City I'm keen to hit the bars and nightclubs and try my luck with the local ladies, but have no idea where to start.

So basically looking for any advice about where to go, how to play it, etc. that any of you can offer a 26 year old guy with a foreign accent and fairly mid-range ability with women (perhaps being generous to myself haha). Guessing I'll have more fun at spots popular with students and backpackers, but I don't really know. Don't know if it makes a difference but I'm likely to stay four nights in Manchester - a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Also does anyone know much about the Manchester hostels; Manchester YHA, Hatters/Hilton Chambers and the like? Are they worthwhile and tolerable? Never been one for hostels but wondering if they may be worth a go.

Thanks in advance!
Single young man out on your own you say;)

I'm no use on the subject of chasing women anymore but wanted to ask 4 nights and 3 City games?
Sorry that didn't make any sense the way I wrote it. 10 nights in the UK, 4 in Manchester is the tentative plan at this stage. Had sworn to myself I'd try to cut down the spending on City travel for a while, but Real Madrid home and Chelsea away back to back was too much to resist, even if I'll be financially fucked for a year or two. Plus not gonna lie I've been itching to get back to Manchester since I became single and experience more of the town than just City, meals and getting drunk near Piccadilly.

Are you going to be OK for tickets? Chelsea away will be difficult to get hold of.

Rap up and enjoy

Enjoy it mate, I'm going the other way in Jan and heading for Perth for a few years. Looking at living around the scarborough area at the moment but fuck me is it expensive!

Ha ha - no worries.

Was just looking forward to seeing Mancini's press conference when he found out that schedule.

Hope you enjoy your trip mate and make the most of it.

Thankfully a couple of people who claim to have the necessary loyalty points offered to help out when I posted on the ticket forum a few weeks back. That's the Manchester hospitality for you! Failing that where there's a will there's a way, last resort I'll walk around begging for a ticket even if I have to sit in the home section (hopefully doesn't come to that).

My parents have a place in Scarborough and yes it's ridiculously expensive. If you decide that's beyond you there are heaps of other nice places to live in Perth. I'm currently looking for a place in the middle of the city, that's the only place I'm willing to look because public transport everywhere else is so shit. Anyway more importantly make sure you go watch some games with the City supporters at Kangaroo Arms in Joondalup, good bunch of guys and pretty much all Mancs (I'm usually the only one there without a Manc accent).

Thanks again for the advice and well wishes guys, looks like I've got some interesting choices for nights out, guess I'll just take a stab and see how I go!

Forgive my shameless thread bump but given I'm just about to take off just thought it was worth checking if anyone has any final "this is definitely the place you should go on Friday/Saturday night" suggestions. Either way if you see an embarrassingly drunk Aussie wandering around the city centre bars then go easy on him haha!
