Did I mention I'd been on Eggheads?
Manchester is renowned the world over for such great musical bands and artists - yet it is all heavily male dominated.

I struggle to think beyond 8 women / artists from Manchester / Salford.
Elkie Brooks
Stella Grundy (Intastella)
Rowetta
Gillian Gilbert (New Order)
Denise Johnson
Linder Sterling (Ludus)
Corinne Drewery (Swing Out Sister)
Cleopatra

Can we count Rochdale's Lisa Stansfield? Probably not.
Why so few?
Paris Angels had a young woman in the band too, just can't think beyond that list.

Even in the 60's with Sandie Shaw, Cilla, Dusty Springfield and all the other girl singers out there Manchester didn't have an equivalent.

Answers please!

Its probably true everywhere but will change gradually through the years. Girls need to stop screaming at boy bands and make music. They won't though.

Sonja from Dislocation Dance.

She may seem like an obscure example but they achieved some popularity in Japan after the musician Cornelius spoke well of them.
