I think this was very badly handled and I'm one who has never warmed to Hughes as I did to Keegan or Sven.
I'm still a bit confused and upset but here's a few of my thoughts on the matter.
I think Hughes tried to make too many changes too quick and as a result left the team vulnerable as it tried to gel.
Overall I think his signings for us were very good, esp. Given,Zab and De Jong & Bellers the only total dud being TBH.
Replacing both central defenders was maybe a step too far and selling Dunne to Villa has turned out to be one of his biggest mistakes IMO.
The way he treated Dunne (telling him he was in his future plans at the start of last season) is exactly the same way the owners treated him,so maybe what goes around comes around.
I thought the days of our club being a joke were over and that Hughes would have until the end of the season to prove his case.
While I'm as disappointed as anyone at our recent results,I don't think all those draws were bad results, we were lucky to even get a draw at Birmingham (thanks to Given) and away draws at 'pool,Villa and Wigan were all we deserved on the day.The Burnley,Bolton,Fulham & Hull games were very disappointing and if we cant beat teams of their limited skills Hughes has to take the blame.I still think he deserved a bit more time though, as were still in the hunt for a Champs League spot and possibly some Cup silverware. What makes it particularly frustrating is that this is the most open Premiership in ages with Liverpool practically abdicating its top four spot and all the other three dropping so many points, just 7 or 8 more goals in those drawn matches and we'd be right up there at the top.
Well here's to Mancini, I hope he can transform our squad of expensive, talented players into winners and inspire them into a Champs League spot.
