Always called it town when growing up in Failsworth.
If anyone said "Do you want to go into town"? there was no confusion.
Nobody went into Oldham (apart from when I had a veruca and needed to go to the chiropodist with me Mum).

A few years back he was staying in the same hotel as me in Shanghai. One morning, I found myself stood next to him in the lift. Just me and him. He’s only a little fella, I reckon I could’ve taken him :) Especially if he referred to town as Manny.
