Mark Hughes sacked

With the exception of Blackburn, Hughes has been disappointing wherever he’s managed.

It’s difficult to fathom why he continues to be hired by clubs in the PL. Unless he can win promotion with a Championship side, I hope it’s the last we see of Hughes in this league.

I can’t say I have much sympathy for Southampton. It was an absurd decision to sack Puel after finishing 8th and reaching a cup final.

and maybe Wales.

What can he expect. In Southampton's current position, they can't afford to drop points to other relegation contenders like United.

I remember discussing it/arguing about it with a few and there was a fairly clear split between busted flush and great manager.

Not sure how widely Peg was sussed as a busted flush. However, it was simple to spot the reputational damage he can do, and the lack of a legacy. Quite a few thought that would be a price worth paying for short term success. I always found that attitude hard to accept.

Mark Hughes isn't bothered about football, he's all about his contract pay off when he gets sacked, I wonder which stupid club will next take a chance on this chancer.

On the contrary, I think he’s a proud man. Just not very good as a manager. Someone lower club will no doubt see him as a big name and start the hamster wheel rolling again.

Yes, that's a fair summary. If he'd taken over at City I'd have been fairly appalled because of the circus he brings, but I would have expected him to win things.

Even the short term success should be put into perspective, in his second spell at Chelsea he was outperformed by Pellegrini on similar budgets.

He's a good manager at the end of his shelf life for me but never a special one. Give him a much bigger budget than anyone else and he'll win you a title or two before picking a fight to get his payoff and leaving your club in shite.
