Mark Hughes sacked

BREAKING NEWS: The Manchester United board have today sacked Southampton manager Mark Hughes after he failed to deliver three points to Old Trafford.

A spokesman for United said "It's no wonder Jose and the team are so far behind City. We used to rely on 6 points from Hughes, Robson, Ince, Bruce and Strachan. With the retirement of H Webb, we are in a 40 point per season deficit!!!!"

Well apart from the fact we were 6th 3pts off a champions league place with a game in hand and in our first cup semi final since 1981 just turned top of the league Chelsea over, apart from that you're spot on.
I never took to Hughes but I am firmly of the opinion that we would have won the League Cup that year under him.
I remember Bobby Manc celebrating wildly at beating the rags by a single goal at our place in the first leg of the semi and thinking at the time that he didn't quite understand what he was dealing with.
Roberto learned fast and well though. :-)

I agree with you Hughes was a stepping stone from where we were to where we are now, simply getting to a semi-final was a dream had he not been sacked I'm of same opinion we'd have put Utd out. We had some shit games under Hughes and we had some brilliant to watch games after 30 years of shite just to be back competing was a result.
He was never going to be long term with the amount of money we had to spend but I've seen a lot worse.

The counterpoint to that was every time any team moved the ball forward down their right wing I (and I suspect many others) groaned as the inevitable goal ensued. Wayne "skin me" Bridge springs to mind. Shudders.

If we had Mancini from the off like summer 2009 or January 2009 we would have progressed even quicker and not signed load of shit for huge cash. Though in fairness to him, Barry, De Jong were good signings, Lescott too but overpriced clearly. I don't think Tevez was his signing, seemed more like a board signing that.

Mark Hughes will get another PL job though...

edit - he must have made money out of that RSC deal though, that deal alone was enough reason to get rid of him.

Granted he did buy some shite for us but also brought in some legends for peanuts in Zaba and Kompany as well as Barry, Lescott, De Jong.

Interestingly he’s not well liked by many reds these days
It's one thing buying players but then you need to know how to use them, thats why he keeps getting fired
