Mark Hughes sacked

I have to say and I remember you and I being quite lone voices in the wilderness when we slated him.

I absolutely loathed the man he was bloody useless. When we kept him on in 2009 I didn't renew my season ticket.

I always called him flat arse Hughes because no matter what he just sat there in his seat with his arms folded - it fucking wound me up no end. If we went one down, instead of getting on his feet and rallying the troops he just sta there.... I'm getting angry just remembering him and typing this GRRRRRR!!

The worst manger we ever had, and yes I'm including Stuart Pearce and Alan Ball in the number.

What pissed me off more than anything though were the people on here who would come on and defend the prick... unbelievable Jeff!

To be fair, part of supporting a team includes blind optimism at times.

Remember when everyone thought he was going to United and/or Chelsea, arf!

Won the football lottery when appointed our manager right before the money came in.

Proceeded to use a blank cheque window before FFP to sign Rocky, Bellamy, Barry, Lescott,Bridge, Given and Adebayor(I refuse to this day to give him any credit for NDJ, Kompany or Zab who were clearly Sven's targets). He could have had any player in world football and this was the list he went for. Some turned out great for us, but in hindsight we could have been shopping at the top table and he went to poundland and overpaid for every single player.

Proceeded to make some absolutely world class players look absolutely woeful. Robinho and Elano never looked the same again(and they got blamed), Sturridge was reduced to Ched Evans understudy ffs, Steven Ireland returned to being Steven Ireland after looking Brazilian under Sven. The list goes on.

Rightfully sacked and I would credit him with being a very dignified man to a fault, but he had to go. The only manager of the Sheikh's reign not to return a trophy.

Went to QPR and was given a blank chequebook and dear god did he balls that up. Nedum, SWP & Cisse when he could have bought anyone yet again ffs.The only reason they weren't relegated against us that day was down to other teams, Hughes had nothing to do with that stroke of luck.

The only thing he did right in his entire career was write me a letter congratulating me on my wedding.

I like the guy, but he's had a terrifying career when you look at how lucky he's actually had it!

Has he applied for the rags job ?

It was actually down to the Bolton keeper being spear tackled into the net while having the ball in his hands, so more down to shit refs and unreal luck.

A bloke I know, a building inspector/engineer, has been working on his gaff in Alderley Edge, apparently
the locals are up in arms about what's happening to an old Victorian property, underground car parks and swimming pools
have so far cost millions. Just shows you how much money there is at this level of football.

Supposedly Hughes will have to be paid off £6m. All I can say is that for all the criticism they get, his agent is a genius.

In a former work environment, we referred rather unkindly to faded, anachronistic managers as “returned empties”.

Why do clubs persist in offering them 7-figure basic salaries? People of his ilk should have a variable package that’s highly leveraged on meeting targets. If they fail, the pay-off is kept within reasonable bounds. And that’s assuming they are worth employing at all.

If I were an ethnic minority guy with strong credentials, I’d be well pissed off at this inward-looking recycling process.

I don’t agree with you on Barry, Given and Lescott, because they were all superb for us, and to a certain extent Bellamy. He also brought in Vinnie and Zaba, but the others, I’m 100% behind you.

I tend to be slightly sceptical of quoted pay offs, because what the media do is calculate their salary by the time remaining on their contract, but unless it's specifically written in to it that full payment is required, it's more usual that only a year is paid up when a contract is severed, particularly if a manager goes and gets another job somewhere. In this case, who knows, but Southampton would have to be mad to have agreed full compensation.
