Good player, not afraid to mix it up, would add more presence, good on the ball to.

If you want an attacking midfielder those are the names we will be looking at. I will be vindicated as one of those names will be with us before the season starts, Fellaini won't.
He has no height though and can't pass the ball forward.
Fellaini has height and is a much better passer than De Jong.
I dont think you have watched many games then...
De Jong has made some excellent long balls to Tevez several times last season. Which has ended up in goals.
De Jong was a creative midfielder when he played for Ajax.
First time I agreed 100% with your post.Dax777 said:Fantastic footballer. Quick, give him Barry's spot and we are set.

I think we are talking about the defensive/Center mid position and not the attacking mid position. All the players you have mentioned above all play in attacking roles.

-- Sun Jun 19, 2011 2:16 pm --

Bunk said:ST Coleridge said:No, he's not. He's tidy, strong, has a good shot and is a massive aerial threat too. And he's only 23. He'd be the ultimate Yaya deputy, and can play further back too.
We currently have Milner, Yaya, Barry and Nigel for those three midfield spots, so another good player is a must. Aside from the less realistic names like Schweinsteiger, Fabregas or Martinez, who else do you suggest?
OOOOHHH Yes he is! He's an absolute Grade-A donkey! Tony Adams with an afro. I watched plenty of him these last few seasons, he typifies the kind of industrial football they choose to play at Everton. He just puts himself about and scores a few scrappy headers here and there. He's not worthy of deputizing for Yaya, they’re both tall, the similarities ends there.
We need a creative ball-playing midfielder, Pastore, Modric, Pjanic, Mata, Hazard, Hamsik, there’s just a few off the top of my head.
Show some ambition!
My only reservation is his injury. As a player he is probably one of box to box midfielders in the premiership, no question.LoveCity said:BlueCityfan said:I dont think you have watched many games then...

Sabster's anti-De Jong bias is infamous, not worth it mate.
One concern with Fellaini I'd have is he managed only 20 appearances last season in the league and 23 the season before. Seriously injury prone.
Pastore is not solid defensively, nor is he good in ariel battle, Felliani is. He is a fantastic box to box midfielder, hard to beat in the air, and hard to defend on set pieces. A fantastic tackler, fantastic in the air, fantastic at holding possession and breaking up plays. He is the epitome of a box to box Midfielder.Bunk said:You two are contradicting each other, are we talking about cover for de Jong or Yaya Toure? Because I've seen both mentioned here. Not that Fellaini would be adequate cover for either. If you're after an attacking midfielder who plays through the middle then Pastore’s your man, you're probably right about Mata and Hazard playing off the wing, but Pastore plays through the middle, he’s also 6ft 2, is that tall enough for you??
The way I look at it is as follows, we should only be targeting the best players in the world now (even when looking at cover positions and squad strengthening). Fellaini isn't in that bracket. I'd rather go without than getting bent over a barrel (again) by Everton for a really average player. He’s dirty, uncoordinated and needs a fucking hair cut. I've no idea where this "he's a great passer" comes from. If we’re gonna pillage Everton again I'd rather have Arteta.
