Freed from the shackles of Sky's editorial policy of licking the rags arses at every possible opportunity, while moonlighting for the FA he gives a balanced commentary and a genuine warmth for City shines through.
It makes you realise that the rag love in that masquerades as Sky's football coverage is solely motivated by Murdoch's psychotic obsession with money. Legends of the game, notably Souness who in private must despise the rags, toe the party line shamelessly.
Even the frighteningly left wing BBC have no hesitation in chasing ratings and revenue with their ridiculously pro united bias delivered by ex players such as Shearer whose contempt for United was refreshingly evident throughout his career.
