Martyn Margetson

He still gives me nightmares, that fella

I was there for his debut at the Swamp - when Giggs didnt touch the ball but still got credited with the only goal.....

I recall THAT QPR game (last match of the season) when QPR were awarded a direct free kick in the box. Margetson had the ball. Immediately the Rangers player asked him for the ball. Margetson duly obliged before any City player could organise a wall or mark etc. Rangers player put ball on the ground, tapped it to his mate who smacked it home......
All he had to do was hold on to it or roll it away from the player demanding it....

He has to be the worst keeper i have seen at City in my lifetime.

I remember being in the platt lane after we had been trounced in yet another match and he had let a couple of soft goals in.The crowd was giving the team some stick and he actually climbed over the wall and had a debate, lol!

I have good memories of Margetson. One summer I was on a CITC community day, think it was at Platt Lane - it was near the ground anyway on some astroturf with fences around it, which involved mostly playing 30-aside football nearly all day and getting manhandled by lads twice my age and about four times my size and weight. He was the special guest for the day and I megged him for a goal. Legitimate goal as well, none of this not trying for the kids business. Mind you, I probably don't need to convince anyone of that.

Dibble was the worst I have seen by a long way.

Second to last. We played, and beat, Stoke the week after and went down.

During that season after Ball got us relegated the pair of them were utter dogshit. I remember a night match against West Brom, somehow we won 3-2 in spite of Margetson seeming to spill every cross at the feet of their strikers.

best keeper to wear a city shirt, dont know what your all going on about ;0

but then again I am obliged to say that as he used to get me and my mates tickets into the players lounge under the main stand. what a shit hole of a bar it was but I did meet uwe rosler, garry flitcroft and Nial quinn in there.
