Interesting observation. I think this boy ain't no Pirlo. I really do not know how he got the Yorkshire Pirlo name. This boy has no presence, whatsoever. Philips does not look like his been in training with City barring that it is first season.

He was never going to be like Rodri out there. He needs minutes and I don’t think he has done anything wrong.

I'm not sure it's entirely to do with confidence, I think it's just a very high footballing IQ that Rodri has

He can pass the ball almost as good as anyone

The main difference is Rodri has exceptional positioning where he's almost always available for the ball, which allows him and us to dictate the rhythm of the game.

Phillips is fine on the ball, can't fault that side of his game but he doesn't dictate the game.

We are putting him under the microscope in what is his first match start. He did well enough, and with mostly second stringers who were also having some first starts. My only real issue with him is that he is 28 next season. would expect a little more polished product at this age, so maybe we should move him. Plus Pep is clearly unimpressed.
