My understanding of the law is that that is irrelevant, if the contact continues into the box.
I always thought it was when foul tarted, but my local team was denied a penalty today in about the same situation, only ref did call a foul and our manager was fuming and he aid - a far as I know the rules, it's where foul is finished. I don't know if that changed somewhere but, prior to today, I'd offer a fight to anyone saying it's not where it started, I was that sure.
