Sterling played the man, not the ball when cross came in. Ref's dont always call them but today, he's done it for both sides. Doesnt matter if its one hand, 2 hands or an arm around the player. He didnt even look for the ball in the air and put his hands on the stoke player. All it would have taken was for Sterling to turn his head to attempt to look for the ball. Tough call but I'm more concerned about why Sterling is marking a stoke player alot taller, bigger than himself.
But Sterling wasn't challenging for the ball, he was just marking the player. So why would he be looking at the ball?
There was no touch on Shawcross when he jumped for the ball.
If you're going to penalise a player for getting close to his marker and not looking at the ball then it's the end of man marking.
