A radical Islamic group has targeted "South Park: creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone for violent retaliation because they depicted the prophet Mohammed in a bear suit on the show's 200th episode that aired on Comedy Central last week.

The Revolution Muslim website posted this warning:

We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.

Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh -- the great grandson of artist Vincent Van Gogh's brother Theo -- was assassinated by a radical Muslim in 2004 because of his film, "Submission," which criticized the treatment of women in Islam.

Do you think what their doing is wrong or is it doing what they believe is right?

Getting upset over cartoons.PATHETIC OR WHAT!

Depends how you look at it. Are they deliberately disrespecting a religion to provoke controversy and publicity? Or are they making a point that one person's beliefs should not curtail the freedom of others'? I suspect it is the former.

I haven't seen the Van Gogh film but by the sounds of it he was making a genuine and legitimate point and was doing what he believed was right.

It is a simple fact that there are areas of Islamic society that are simply incompatible with Western culture and our liberal beliefs. In the West we value freedom above all else (though governments have a funny way of showing it at times). In certain areas of Islamic society they do not believe in our version of freedom and they refuse to accept our world view. That makes the two groups incompatible.

There are millions of followers of Islam who do not subscribe to these more extreme views but the minority is pretty dangerous. It only takes one man to kill another.

Nineteen-eighty-four made me question what would be better: a world with freedom but where many starve or a world with no freedom but nobody goes hungry.

Still can't find this on YouTube though

they only produce rubbish shows

satire should be clever as well as mocking

to just mock is ignorant.

I have a lot of respect for Matt Stone and Trey Parker and they should keep on doing what they're doing and carry on sticking two fingers up at anyone who tries to silence them.

-- Wed Apr 21, 2010 1:17 pm --
