Does anybody else agree that this lad as has been of a different class for Bolton this season???

Tbh i thought he was outstanding last season and in all his games for Portsmouth...

He has all the qualities City's squad is crying out for right now;

A) Incomparable work rate, Puts lots of our squad (Bar Ireland Dunne, Etc) to shame
B) He has a hammer of a left foot
C) His passing is outstanding....He set up 3 of Boltons Goals Yesterday, and scored the other!
D) He has fantastic fitness, he ran non-stop for 90 minutes, and tbh has all season
E) He can tackle, track back
F) MOST IMPORTANTLY HE CAN TAKE A SET PIECE!!!! WHAT A LUXUARY THAT WOULD BE FOR US!!!!

Honestly though how good would it be to have him swinging the ball in for Boj and Bell? And we could probably get him for a couple of million!

...shame we'll probs end up with a over-rated italian/welsh alternative...........

I like him too, but maybe we should aim a bit higher. He should be picked for England soon. Bolton will be looking for about £5m I reckon.

He plays for Bolton so you've already lost the argument to most on here, even though, as you say, he managed to put the ball on a plate for Boltons other "players" and grab a goal himself.

He is however a very good player, a sort of less technically gifted SWP for the left, and he would also give Robinho the freedom to drift where he wanted to.

I reckon even as a squad player he would be pretty useful....and he's only 27...I reckon he is about to hit his purple patch of his career...so I guess I think it would be buying around what we should ability wise

and like mcigo said he really think he'll be picked for England soon, he would be a refreshing change to the ineffective Downing...

I think he could offer us the stability on the left hand side that SWP offers on the right...as SWP does 50% of our tackling on the right at the mo!

Watching match of the day from last night I have to saythat I thought exactly the same. He isa great player, you could say we should be aiming higher, but you need squad players too, you cannot fill a team of superstars and this lad would be quality. His set peices are amazing (which is what we are really desperate for), he is left footed and can play in so many positions. He would be a great buy in my eyes.

sorry bizzbo i forgot that Garrido, Ball, Etuhu etc are world class, I think as a squad player he would be fantastic, lets face it all the top teams have players of this ability in their ranks....

we could do with some depth and consistency

Suppose in the summer we sign a new left winger of top class and Petrov becomes our squad player?

I'm not sure signing players purely to be a squad player is the right thing to do. We should be signing players better than what we already have with those we do have becoming squad players.

That said if he were to come cheaply and agreed that he would be happy to be back up then we have little to lose. I think we should be aiming higher though.

I think he'd make a decent squad player. Rags have the like of Fletcher, O'shea etc who always do a job when they come in. Would rank Taylor above a lot of our current squad players anyway.....

Could you imagine if we buy say robben, as an example, we are winning 1-0 against blackburn and they're now starting to get heavy on or players and piling a lot of pressure on. Would you then like to bring on petrov who probably puts less of a tackle in than robinho (not having a dig at any of them) or would you like to bring on matthew taylor who will fight for the ball all the time and still deliver a good cross in?
You could use this to a lot of players. We need to get our superstars yes, the ones who can score and create goals with their eyes shut , but we also need some battlers in their place who we can bring on, to ensure we ge the ball at every oppurtunity.
