Matthijs de Ligt

Going to Barca for "Messi" is crazy. How many good years does Messi have in him? He's 31 - 2 good years if he doesnt get injured.
I, personally, don't think that's crazy. He's the greatest of all time imho and to play with him even for a year around his peak would be an incredible experience for any player. Even if he only has 2 years (I suspect he'll be playing for another 4 or 5 at the top level tbh) it's not like Barcelona are some sunday league side without Messi, they have other great players and an historic stadium etc. This doesn't mean I think Barca would be a better destination for him than here, as I think Pep could lead us to a dynasty here over the next few (possibly 5 according to reports) more years and de Ligt would be perfect for us with Vincent leaving. There are other options too but like, I don't think it's "crazy" to want to move to Barcelona.

52,5-61m would be a steal

Pep and the club are in a strong position here.
Sounds like City have named their price and €100mill is a reasonable value given his age and potential. It looks like Bayern would not meet that.
Will be up to the club to negotiate an extension to Leroy‘s contract and if he does want to stay and prove his worth it will be essential he agrees one.
Either way it’s good to see the club will not get rolled over here and let him go on the cheap.
What else would you expect a barca fan to say?

Stopped reading when it said a football club didn’t want 3 massive clubs to have a bidding war over its prize asset.
Could be that Ajax believes he has been a great servant for the club, and they want him to choose what club he wants (even if they aren’t the highest bidder) as long as it’s over their asking price. Doesn’t look like Ajax will have any economic problems in the future

That’s naive as fuck even by your standards mate.

Just the fact that Guillem mentions only three clubs to be interested (Juventus, Barca, Bayern) with City not being one of them sounds strange. Why wouldn't we be in for the most promising centre back in Europe, given Kompany just left and Otamendi has one foot out the door? I think this whole Maguire-trace is hyped up by the media. Why on earth would we pay 60-70m for Maguire when we can get a seven year younger and better centreback for the same money? And why would Juventus and Bayern be more interesting than joining the worlds best manager at City? It doesn't add up. I would say De Ligt is a two-horse race between Barcelona and City. I can't think of another club for him.

Well we must think we still have a shout as we normally brief the press that we aren’t interested if we get snubbed.

@karen7 said we cant afford him, so we mustn't be in for him ;-(

We're one of the richest clubs and spent 'only' 60m last summer. Trust me, we can afford him. But it's a shame he has the pig Raiola as an agent. It might make De Ligt greedy.

I would love him to come, and the most encouraging thing that suggests to me that we could be interested is the deafening silence. The noise around Maguire could be the perfect distraction technique from our true target. From his perspective he could end up being captain, in the next couple of years, of the most exciting team in world football. So why wouldn’t he come and the wedge will be spectacular.

I think part of her view was that we weren't prepared to pay the requested high agent's fee. An agent's fee of around £14m was being mooted I think? But also Barca was his first choice was a factor.
