This may or may not be of passing interest to a few City fans of a certain mature age but I did an interview with Shoot The Breeze, which is a podcast dedicated to football mags like Shoot! and Match Weekly from the 1980s. The interview ended up running over three hours and so they have split it into two episodes, one this week and part two runs next. There's a lot of City stuff in there, including this clip where I explain how I came to present Dennis Tueart with the original art from my weekly series in Match, how I had my own series in the City program for a couple of years and ended up doing commissions for half the team. I think this link to just the video clip should work:

If it doesn't the link to the full podcast is: http://shootthebreezepod.co.uk
There's an interactive element to each episode where they post images from the issue in question and listeners can follow along in tandem with the discussion.

Next week's episode will have more City chat, some stuff about big blue Rob Gretton and why Tony Wilson hated me. (I know, I know ... he wasn't alone.)

Cheers!

From the days of when football was the preserve of the local match going fan. Those who were too young to go yet, were left with illustrations to show how goals were scored. I used to buy a magazine called Scoop that appeared in the late 70s to rival Shoot. No Christmas was complete without the annual. Across the country there probably weren't many young boys bedrooms that weren't adorned with team or player posters from these magazines. I remember one of the regular free gifts being cardboard league tables (T Card design) which allowed you to keep track of the league as each set of games were played. No live league football to be seen in them days I'm afraid unless you paid your 4p bus fare and 80p to get in the Kippax, where you could see Tueart, who was probably most City fans favourite player in that post Bell era.

Wow match magazine, I got that religiously in the 80s along with shoot, then it was always the annual at Christmas, brought back some memories.
If I'm not mistaken it used to have the results in from the previous week and i always looked out for my cousins name being listed in the teams.
Happy days.

Dosen't do your (then) hair justice. ;)
Bit breezy that day at Maine Rd!
Those kiss curls developed into a full on Graeme Souness, as a teenager, and by the time I got to the States, the ladies loved it!

I was the Joe Exotic of 1982 in Central Illinois! ;-)

And, unlike Dennis, I still have mine!!

Dennis Tueart has always been one of my favourite City players , he was such an exciting player to watch , and it's clear that , even now , he still loves the club.

He's 70 years old now , and has suffered plenty of family heartache ... but the guy will always be a popular choice witth older City fans , no doubt about that.

Wasn't he a Mackem?

No , definitely a Geordie ..... as a youth he both played for Newcastle boys , and watched Newcastle United ..... he did in later years play for Sunderland , as we all know , but he was actually born in the Walker area of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1949.

Loved Dennis , a real winners attitude, great work rate and skill, oh and a feisty little fucker too, Tevez always reminded me a little bit of Dennis actually, his book’s well worth a read too, clearly has the clubs best interests at heart despite growing up a Newcastle fan.

IIRC he mentioned that his parents windows had been put in after the 1976 League Cup Final. Loved the guy and remember being in tears when he left for New York Cosmos. I was about 14. Told him this a few years ago at a supporters club do and he smiled and shook my hand. Top bloke.
