Barney Ronay has just been exposed as loving Saudi Arabian cash. He wrote articles for a paper owned by a member of the Saudi Arabian Royal Family. On top of him loving his jollies watching the England cricket team in Dubai he`s another "sportswashing" prick to add to the list.

Another beauty from Barney about it being "absurd to boycott World Cup when Russia is so bound up in our economy"

The hypocrisy is astounding !

I guess it's too much to expect the likes of Ronay and Hattenstone to publicly admit they jumped the gun a little bit early, and in their haste to demonise a set of supporters they didn't even consider the possibility that a Brit was banged up abroad for totally legitimate reasons.

As details come out we can see that it was never a clear case of right vs wrong, which makes some journos insistence that your average football fan take sides utterly ridiculous.

I've liked Ronays articles in the past, but he has no credibility for me until he holds his hands up on this. Hattenstone I've never been keen on but would give him some credit if he publicly apologised.

As for the rest (Harris, Castles etc), they made their bed long ago.

Well said

Someone should post that on their site. I don’t do twitter but think this should be put out there and re-tweeted as many times as possible under #selectivejournalistsportswashing

He was asked about it on Twitter but the coward ran. I used to have time for Barney but he's no better than the rats in the gutter press, just a bit more eloquent.

Woke up early flitting around the tv and Granada news comes on. Sports news....."United won 1-0 but City didn't fare too well only drawing 2-2." Right.....United were dreadful and scraped a late win and sit second in their group. We got a credible draw away against a top side with our midfield depleted by injuries and top our group by three points. Both teams have qualified but we didn't fare too well. I know I know i am getting too sensitive lol!

An hour+ into the bbc website coverage of the night before, and apart from the 1st posts general summary, it’s all posts about United, even a post labelled Man City is actually about United...

The page headline is ‘Manchester teams qualify for last 16 - reaction’
I think it needs altering to ‘...- reaction only for the one that we support’

Edit: 1.5hrs and counting
Edit2: 2 hours in, and they deign to post the 1st item about the City game. @franksinatra

But there's no agenda as a couple of our chums on BM have consistently been assuring us.

You really are. The details of the match, which you have listed, rarely if ever get given in mitigation. Anyway we qualified which is what is important.

There is a tendency to become a bit paranoid I will admit but it happens too often to just be the odd bit of bad reporting, or a slip of the tongue. It is like a very subtle drip feed of negativity. We know the usual rabid anti City mob who slag us off at every opportunity, but around them is another army of media who just slip in sly little digs or just ignore us completely. If they don't ignore us they just bury our achievements way down the sports pages under a whole host of rag and dipper stories. We are only headlines if it is anything negative.

Even at that, and I agree that mitigation is rarely given, 'a well earned point', 'got the point needed' or simply 'City drew away in Lyon' is all that's required but they do what they always do, find the negative slant.
