Baku is in Europe and is a fantastic city and the stadium is very nice. Just because it doesn’t suit people who live miles away doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be held there. If an Azerbaijan team ever got the the final, should the final not be held in Lisbon just because it’s a long way away? But is correct tbf, Baku is a piss take and unless fans and to some extent clubs don't make a stand then uefa will continue to pick stupid final venues
By being in the Caucasus, in Europe. How does a country with a land-border with Iran host a European final?
He's confused. They don't understand the world around them. Whilst the American establishment wrestles with interventionism the fascists of the new age provide the intellectual justification for continued world conflict. A lifetime of education lost in a few short years. A sad waste of a very talented writer. Unfortunately that is the way with much of humanity. Most people never discover their talent. Barney did, but then he uses it to pen poison.I'm not going to read his article but, as with the man who wrote it, the weakness in it is obvious.
Straight off the bat, he shifts the blame with his false premise. Football isn't fanning any flames: Barney Ronay and his cronies are. When he gets closer to the truth, he still blames 'broadcasters and newspapers' as if it's nothing to do with him. Presumably, he and his mates are just doing their job. At the end, we get the really big lie when Smarmy Barney channels his inner Goebbels, who was also a hack who desperately wanted to be a writer. Goebbels believed that a big lie more effectively persuades people than a little fib because it grabs people at an emotional level. So we get the lie that the tone of City's statements about FFP is that of an aggressive underdog and that the underdog is an invention of the UAE. He's making it up, the whopper. I get the impression that either he was drunk when he wrote that pile of nonsense or that he's a dishonest cynic who knows that there is enough emotion around football to gain some clicks with his inventions.

The biggest issue is the price of tickets, not the choice of venue. Okay Micky whatsisname cant play there but Arsenal never moaned about that when Baku was voted on to host it two years ago.

So which one of you are an official of the 'hateful regime that is the UAE''?
Yesterday the Guardian published this https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2019/may/24/welcome-to-elite-football-great-summer-of-hate very prominently on Guardian football. It is written by Barney Ronay who is the same journalist who accused City fans of siding with the UAE when Matthew Hedges, a Durham student was arrested and charged last year.
Barney Ronay has the .....

Azerbaijan isn't in Europe at all. Neither are Armenia, Georgia and Kazakhstan. Asia starts on the eastern side of the Dardanelles. Those countries are very firmly geographically in Asia. Israel is also in Asia but was admiited to UEFA because of the political difficulties of their club and national teams playing in Asian competitions when the chance of being drawn against the likes of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States is inevitable at some point. Turkey is in UEFA because they have part of their country geographicaly in Europe. I've never understood why these former Soviet states in Asia were ever admitted to UEFA in the first place.

Then why are Russia and their teams in UEFA?

Cardiff, Swansea and Newport set a small precedent with football associations. I don’t think in the grand scheme of football these countries being allowed to develop the game by being included in Europe is a major problem. There are some good arguments either way, flights, hotels, length of time to get there, etc but fans find a way, Faroe Isles anyone? It’s still more accessible than getting to Vienna on the 29th April 1970, most working class people simply didn’t have the wherewithal to fly anywhere, those that did typically visited Spain in their allocated two weeks (called wakes) holiday and returned home carrying a replica bull complete with little daggers in the back.Azerbaijan isn't in Europe at all. You're right, it does. I think that must be the result of some political change post USSR. I guess the continents are human constructs so subject to change.Erm that link lists azerbaijan as in Europe
