Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

The beauty of Kirkland's reasoning, Sterling tends to come too deep and doesn't look to stretch the play. That's the point you clown. Kane, Alli & Lingard all look to run in behind. Someone needs to play between the lines...

Sterling actually does both: he drops deep and plays between the lines, linking play, and plays on the shoulder to stretch the game. This would be very difficult to defend against if we had players who could pass the ball to him (i.e., how Hazard is such a threat for Belgium because he has players like KDB behind him).

"England manager Gareth Southgate says he is mystified by the debate over Raheem Sterling's position in the side as he returns to face Colombia in the World Cup last 16 meeting"

Also says "I have great belief in him, he has been a really important part of the team,"

Maybe that will shut some fuckers up on here, or is even he wrong??

Another example of moving the goal posts. If Southgate wasn't playing him tonight it would be "he doesn't have a clue anyway" when he defends him (and rightly so) he is the lord saviour of all knowledge.

Nothing will change the opinion of the Sterling haters mate..
Personally I think Raz is underrated by the vast majority of fans, pundits and the media.
Even if Raz scores the winning goal tonight he will still get compared unfavourably to the Wythenshawe Pele..so fuck the media ...fuck the pundits and fuck the haters.
If he scores the story will be Raheem redeems himself. So sad for him/

Not sure what you mean about moving goal posts. The England manager has played him consistently, I am assuming it is for footballing reasons, or because he actually adds to the team. I also assume he hasnt succumbed to the bollocks that is reported in the press, regurgitated by the pundits, and then swallowed by gullible haters.

People change their minds on here, if Southgate was to drop him then his opinion doesn't matter because it doesn't match theirs. Now he is defending him like he should and his opinion should be the be all and end all. Surprised he hasn't been accused of setting him up to fail with the vote of confidence by all the sensitive souls in here.

Your a strange one Tom, the people who coach Raz consistently rate him. I’ve never heard a single coach criticisize him.

Do you not value anything Sterling does?

I'm just waiting for the "Sterling place under threat" headlines now Mahrez is almost confirmed.

I understand the thread, does it need 280 pages of everyone agreeing the media treat him differently? Erm no so it may as well be pulled then. No one knows the reasons and it isn't changing anytime soon so what is the point? Rashford did get criticised. Most notably by Shearer who was in favour of him having a chance ahead of Sterling, that wasn't received well in here because apparently Shearer said it in a certain tone. Crazy talk. Sterling would have got more granted.

Tom I really dont know what you are on. The only person who has changed his mind on this thread is you.

This thread is about Sterling and his media treatment. You have acknowledged that the media treat him differently. You acknowledge that the reasons are unknown and that it is not going to change so what is the point of being critical of the media? The point of this thread and being critical of the media is that it is unfair and unjust and therefore should be challenged doing nothing is called appeasement and doesn't work as the perpetrators will continue and become more and more extreme

What people have recently highlighted that he has received support from his manager which flies in the face of the criticism that he gets from the media which his own manager does not understand and people have highlighted this as a good thing which even you must acknowledge surely?

Of course I do, his movement is second to none. Fantastic positional sense. His feet just don’t always work and why he has a few horror misses to his name in his short career. He will get in that position fantastically well, he fluffs more than more gifted footballers would that’s all. I wasn’t saying Southgate was wrong, it’s nice him coming out and defending him but don’t use that as a reason that pro sterling fans are right because of it.
