A ref can't fix a game, he can only influence it

There was a match we played against Norwich a few years ago and the ref was abysmal in the first twenty five minutes as he gave Norwich absolutely everything and us absolutely nothing, however we were three nil up even with his terrible performance.

Step forward Chris Foy.....it really was a game of 30 mins & then another of 60.

He also booked Tevez in that period for diving, when it was a blatant foul on him and should have been a penalty.

It's this notion that people who want to disprove the whole thing go "well it can hardly be an orchestrated campaign where every game is rigged and everyone's following orders, can it? There would be proof, it would leak"

Going back to Bozzie's post, there are some games, as proved by Matt Le Tissier, where certain things are attempted to be fixed. Then there are others where the result is attempted to be fixed, but it doesn't always work, it's not 100% foolproof but it doesn't mean it wasn't attempted. We refer back to Atkinson, at 0-0 he held some sway and had an influence, at 2-0 he had little influence but back at 2-2/3-2 he had a lot of influence and decided the result. Anthony Taylor at 5-0 v Watford gives us a penalty, Craig Pawson at 3-0 v Swansea gives us a penalty, they can't make a difference so a) it doesn't matter and b) it balances their record. At 0-0 v Chelsea, at 0-0 away at Leicester, at 1-0 v Spurs and 0-0 v Arsenal in the cup semi-final these referees have continually avoided giving us decisions and in only one of those instances did we win the game.

Different referees will have vested interests. Is it hard to imagine that Taylor as a rag wouldn't want to disrupt City a little bit out of personal bias? When people publish links between Moss/Hodgson, or Clattenburg gets linked to certain people, you get to realise that different people back different horses for different reasons, and then you add Scudamore's comments, the influence of senior United executives within the PL, FA, UEFA and FIFA and Lahoz being in the pay of the Spanish FA and he happens to get 2 City games where he gives 2 penalties against us, disallows a perfectly good goal and sends the pro-Catalan Pep off. All of these influences, biases and then add on a bit of financial incentive and pressure, and you build a picture.

and they didn't have anyone sent off till a rather farcical one against chelsea when they had the league sewn up iirc

Yes Liverpool played better than us, deffo in the first half at Anfield & ultimately deserved to go through mate.
But that is beside the point.
How many times have Utd been 2nd best & won a game this season? For example Anfield, Spurs in the cup even V Arsenal reserves at the weekend. Yet they found a way to not get beat or win because the ref did his job & didn't help the oppo, on some occasions he helped Utd.
Look at Real v Bayern. Bayern were the better team yet the ref did his job. Bayern defended poorly & wasted chances so went out.
Deserve has nothing to do with it its about fairness.
City dominated many games in 2016/17 but dropped points in a lot of them because we were not efficient in both boxes. That is Citys fault but a remember a few games where the ref messed up too to exacerbate matters.
Wigan in the cup got help from the ref too even though City dominated the game we went out. Yes City wasted many chances & gave a crap goal way but the ref had a say on the games result.
Ultimately City V Liverpool & Bayern V Real the losers defended poorly & that is something City need to improve on for next season.
Rather than City going gung ho when we go a goal down at a tough ground keep it tight & ride out the storm rather than opening ourselves up trying to score straight away, its naïve & we need to be a bit more streetwise.
City have the class in attack sooner or later we will get chances, we do not need to rush as much.
City defended poorly that's our fault & Liverpool were clinical to their credit.
But in big games where it is tight goals change the flow of the game & the momentum of the game too. 5-1 deffo flattered Liverpool, even dippers I know said the same.
Salah goal was offside yet was given, stonewall pen for Sterling waved away & two perfectly good goals by Jesus & Sane wrongly chalked off. The ref deffo had an impact on the game mate.
Not totally the refs fault we went out but he deffo had a hand in it.

Good post. These poor decisions can cause huge momentum changes as they did in the CL QF.
Off sides can often rest on inches as we all know but Sterling pen and Leroy’s goal not given were terrible

That was Foy, nearly burst a blood vessel watching that. Had a similar showing from Craig Pawson 2 weeks ago in the Swansea game.

Yet they were in double figures. Thank fuck he gave up at 3-0 (0-3 from his viewpoint) or some of our lads wouldn't make the world cup. Swansea aren't a dirty side either, which shows how much influence a referee has.

That only supports your view, it was webb who sent off the little Brazilian around the 88 minute with Chelsea 1 -0 up the ref did not see the incident but the lines woman did, she flagged and can be clearly saying three times` yellow card,` but webb knew that all records are investigated by EUFA and utd were on a record of not conceding a penalty `i think that was just at home`and not having a man sent off
